Sooner, faster and longer

You walk into a building and start blasting away. Then you walk further in and low and behold there a bunch of bad things just siting around scratching their butts.

Please, someone figure out away for npcs to go to "alert" based on nearby actions by the player. And then have them stay that way for more than a few seconds.
