Sooo... Dogmeat again?

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 10:57 am

Ok, so in the Fallout 4 Demo your Dog companion is named both Dogmeat and Dog at different points.

So is it Dogmeat making a reappearance? Or is the Dog nameable by the player and someone just called it Dogmeat?

Personally, I think they should put the poor pooch down.

I mean, I loved Dogmeat as much as anyone, in Fallout 1, but it's getting a bit ridiculous that he's in every game (that isn't a side-game).

Am i alone in thinking this?

What are your thoughts on this eternal companion?

Edit: I would call him Fenton!

I personally don't care what they call the dog but I wouldn't mind if we had gotten Rex again.

I expect we have a choose of several names to chose from.

I think the dog has been Called Dog and Pal in game.

I haven't heard him called Dogmeat in game, but that is what Bethesda refers to him as.

Use a mod to rename him "Muttpooper" or something.

He has never been in every game. Dogmeat is just the collective name for dogs in fallout. Think of it as a title rather than a name.

Well, that would have been an option in a game without a voiced protagonist. :D

It's mostly because i think novelty of Dogmeat has kinda worn off about now.

He was in 1,2 and 3. So every game that wasn't a side-game, like: Tactics and New Vega.

Yep, and it's modeled after the Mad Max dog. You only get him if you wear the MM-styled leather armor.

I don′t mind it, it′s a charming legacy character, like Toad in Mario games

The dog is named Dog before you learn his real name, which is Dogmeat.

I′m more inclined to think you′ll get to name the dog and the demoer named his/hers dogmeat as a wink wink to fans

Firstly, I disliked Rex because of that brain in a jar on his head. I felt sorry for him, but I really didn't want to look at him.

Also, I really want either a better breed of dog or a Yao Guai. Yeah, Dogmeat, great, but if I can't get a Husky, Malamute, Akita or just a giant bear as a pet, then I'm really not interested.

"Good boy, Dogmeat!" "Stay here and defend the settlement." *Forgets Dogmeat exists*

As I recall, it was specifically confirmed when you first find the dog, its just named dog, but you eventually find someone who tells you the dogs name is dogmeat.

As I said think of it as a title not a name. Yes there has been a dog but it's not the same dog.

I must be misunderstanding the question. You ask if it's the same dog even though he's a completely different breed? Or are you just complaining that it has the same name again?

Understandable.

I honestly cant recall where I saw it from, so I can't provide a source.

Both i guess.

I donno why, but it just rubs my the wrong way that they keep using the same name. It's not exactly hard to come up with a new dog name, even one that carries a reference to some pop-culture thing.

Plus, it seems a bit silly to go through all the trouble of modeling a NPC companion after a co-workers pet and then just give it the generic-fallout-dog-name.

Its not so much about creativity as it is giving a nod to a video game legacy, kinda like how almost every final fantasy game has a character called Cid.

I was under the impression it was called Dog to allow you to rename it, as the game appears to be quite extensive with customization as it is. I only assume the same would apply for simply naming the dog whatever you want.

I'm more disappointed by the fact he's a not a blue heeler, if they're gonna re-use the name every game they might as well keep the same breed.

Can't rename, would conflict with the voice protagonist thing.

I got that in F3. Hell, they even had Harold in it (and the audacity to kill him ).

But the novelty has kinda worn off, i think. And with so many other ways to achieve the same thing..? Going with Dogmeat again, seems a bit lazy to me.
