Sooo... Skyrim's rating...

Post » Mon Feb 28, 2011 12:07 pm

I noticed the other day that Morrowind was rated T for only Blood and Violence, whereas Oblivion was rated M for Blood and Gore, Language, sixual Themes, Use of Alcohol, and Violence. Now see this large jump between MW and OB, do you think Beth will ramp it up more for Skyrim, or keep it around the same as Oblivion?

I predict M.

They are going for more brutal/violent combat but it's likely the drug use, and sixuality parts will be on par with previous titles.

I doubt it would go any higher than M. It wouldn't make sense from a marketing standpoint.

You can't really go further than M. Do you really think Bethesda is going to make a game rated AO? lol, c'mon. No. Of coarse not. It'll be rated Mature more than likely.

Hopefully it's M so that they can design the game for that rating and not have to worry about content if they were aiming for a T rating.

I dont really mean as in going for an advlt rating, thats just stupid.

What I mean is, more Violence/Gore, actual drug use that warrants the description in the rating. Things like that.

Actually, Oblivion was rated T as well but because of modders that took advantage of code that made briasts, shall we say, more real, the ESRB changed it to M and ordered Bethesda change all the games to M. This happened well after Oblivion was released of course. But from the screens in GI mag, I'm guessing it will be M but they might be able to make it skate with a T but I'm guessing the ESRB is not too happy with BGS right now.

it will be an M because to get any lower it has to have basically no violence and no alcohol which im sure is in there

Not true, Oblivion skated with a T and it had violence and alcohol and quite a bit of gore. Like I explained above, it was a mod finding and unlocking code in the game that made them change the rating to M. Violence is a staple in a lot of T games btw. I mean, look at WoW. It has violence and alcohol in it and it's T, point made hehe.

I agree. To have a rated T game, you have to have

- No sixual themes.

Both Alan Wake and Oblivion had violence, drugs and blood. What Alan Wake DIDN'T have that made it a T-rated game was sixual themes. The most that game had was a few kisses, hugs, and Alice Wake sitting on her bed in underwear.

Actually, M would be worse for them. Their sales take a hit from an M rating. Besides, as I said, they have got away with gore and what not in the past with Oblivion getting a T. As long as they don't have nudity code hidden in the game this time around, they can pull off a T while not sacrificing the greatness of the game.

This.

Also, seeing as Duke Nukem Forever has an M rating, and it is MUCH MUCH more profane than Skyrim, I have no reason to see how it could go above M in the first place.

Stop talking because you know not. There was no nudity hidden in the game code. It was a simple texture replacement and no an M rating will not effect sales much at all. FO3 is proof of that.

Given the brutal finishers an M is nearly inevitable. And with our happy bunch of possible Mephala worshippers, who caused the re-rating for Oblivion, it is guaranteed.

Oblivion was rated T, until a modder put some boobs on the female NPCs, and the ESRB took another look at the game and decided that maybe the violence was a little higher than they first thought, and made everyone put M stickers on all the T copies. Every copy after that was M. Bethesda, being the cool guys they are, took it in stride.

I'm predicting M. They're going for a certain level of brutality that I think would be underserved with a T rating.

Remind me is Call of Duty Black Ops T rated uh I'll answer that question nope it's not. A T rating would hold Bethesda back as to what they can put in the game because they'll be too concerned that this action will cause it to be M rated. In that situation it would be better to just aim for the game to be M rating and not have the situation that occured with Oblivion.

Yeah the M rating won't negatively impact sales at all. My 10 year old brother and his entire generation play Black Ops and I come from a prissy middle class British background.
