Ive found several treasure maps through my travels over two beta weekends and two different characters. Ive attempted to find some, one in particular in Auridon that I spent a good two hours on. Im curious if anyone has found any and what loot was in the chest. Considering bag space is precious, and is my time, im wondering if the ends justify the means.

Good question, I believe that the normal chests that we find around the world are not the same that we find thru the treasure maps. Ive heard and read about it and they say that the treasure chests that we find via the maps are visible only to your character.

Im interested in knowing what kind of loot they give too. I remember in the feb 4 beta there was a guy with a legendary lvl 14 2h axe, I wonder if it was from the threasure chests.

I just watched a video on Izad's Treasure, and the reward was only 70 gold, I think.

Weak! You would think that if the maps themselves are of blue quality, the loot would be too!

I found a enchanted weapon inside on (nothing intresting).

Do treasure map chest scale with levels or are they tag to the level of the area?

Got a map but didn't ahve the time to check it out. At lvl 5 tho, 70G would have been a pretty good chest.

It seemed like the loot from these chests was randomly generated, though someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on that. Generally, the rewards seemed lackluster, and not worth the effort if your goal is to get some phat lootz. However, it's still very cool to hunt down buried treasure based on hand-drawn maps of the area. I had fun tracking them down just for the hell of it; it was never about the reward, for me. It would be nice if there was some kind of achievement for finding each treasure (maybe there is already, I didn't notice if there was. ) That might help alleviate the disappointment for some players when they open the chest and find nothing particularly interesting.

Considering how the maps are rare to begin with, then you have to go on a hunt for the chest. The rewards SHOULD be considerable. Otherwise, whats the point other than maybe a RP thing.

If its just some gold or a random crappy white/ green, I wont bother. Im very goal oriented. I could be doing something else productive instead of chasing down garbage.

That's a quest, not a treasuremap.

I found 3 treasuremaps in the beta weekend, those are blue items which you use to see a handdrawn picture of a location. Figure out on your own where it is.
I found 2 of the locations (didn't bother with the 3d) which resulted in getting a load of gold, an item and something else I can't remember. Since these were treasuremaps from the two Daggerfall starting islands the items were low level.

Some people will not be happy unless the chests always contain a legendary item, but I personally think the treasuremaps are well worth it. It's a nice incentive for exploring.

Spartanjesters explains treasure chests on their youtube channel, they also loot a chest with loot containing gold, gem, glyph.. AND! a Blue item This seems to be the standard inside the treasure map chests other people have looted.
