core temp and hwmonitor are a couple of programs.

Intel processors have a max temperature of 99c, with stock cooler you would probably see around 80c, not entirely sure what typical laptop temperatures are though. Basically the lower the better.

While you're all here, I would like recommendations on a new gaming rig. I've got a budget of about $2,000 and would prefer a small form factor but will go with a tower if that's what's best. I don't need a monitor, but I do need HDMI-out as this will be connected to a home theater via a Denon AVR. I've built many PCs but haven't done so in about 8 years so I'm not current with the best components right now. I want to run at max settings at 60 fps+ if possible.

TIA

if you built computers 8 years ago then quite honestly you know what you like, the avg lifetime of a decently built desktop computer is 5 - 7 years , your actually not as outdated as you think, and since your the best judge of what you like I honestly suggest you do a little bit of research and I would say in about 2 hours you will be able to figure out exactly what you want to get way better than anything we could suggest for you.

Why is there so much hate for laptop gaming?
Yes a Desktop PC is superior to everything, but that doesn't mean that the rest isn't able to run stuff at high.
Ive played years on a PC and since 2 years i'm using a laptop for the following reason:

- Its moveable at any time, i'm not forced to use it at one spot

And Why is WI-FI so bad? were not talking about 40-50 mb/s.

your laptop should do fine, ive got a slightly worse Acer V3 771G and its good enough

its not hate as such for laptop gaming, its just several things,

1 a laptop isnt necessarily easy to upgrade so you are basically stuck with whatever you buy

2 a laptops life expectancy is usually 3 - 5 years and thats stretching it whereas a desktop is 5 - 7 years easily

3 a laptop tends to be more expensive than a desktop in the sense of if you buy equivalent parts the desktop usually comes out cheaper

4 a laptop also tends to overheat a lot more than a desktop unless u go to extreme measures to keep it cool which also shortens the life of it

these are the main reasons I usually suggest a desktop over a laptop IF you usually use the computer at a stationary location, if you move around a lot then by all means use a laptop. also a laptop is a lot harder to custom choose what you want to put in it whereas a desktop you can pick and choose everything and usually get the best of the best that YOU like

and as far as wireless goes well the wireless simply is not as capable of pushing the same amount of data transfer rates as its wired counterparts efficiently

Many people are stuck i the olden days when laptops were worthless and desktops had to be renewed in 2 years.

The truth is, the mobile platforms have evolved much in the past 2-3 years and that has gone past many.

Not long ago you couldn't even watch a movie at 1080p on a laptop.

from what ive read, if you plan to connect to a wireless network the lenovo wireless nic is really bad. Might I suggest an MSI notebook. the GT series is really good.

The ESO exe actually does not need to support SLI. Afaik manually forced alternate frame rendering 2 in the nvidia drivers makes ESO work in SLI mode. It's just a setting and an exe selection in driver menus. The driver decides then how to procede with GPU distribution in SLI when ESO is executed.

[EDIT] A nvidia profile would be neat though.

[EDIT 2] and http://www.geforce.com/games-applications/pc-games/elder-scrolls-online This app supports: SLI
