Sorry if this has been asked, but I still don't know if Aldu

I think he is, right? Doesn't Akatosh want to destroy nirn to get his power back?

They say Alduin is a Nordic variation of Akatosh, which should mean they're the same thing. I think Akatosh is one of two gods found in the religion of every major race, right?

I've been doing a ton of lore reading but they still seem like the same thing.

My understanding of it is that Akatosh is almost as bipolar as Charlie sheen.

Nope, Auriel wants his power back from Nirn; Alduin wants to destroy the world so he can create the next one (which he will then destroy, to make the one after that...), and Akatosh likes Nirn just the way it is.

And yes, they're all the Dragon God of Time.

Alduin, Akatosh, Auri-El, all the same god, different perspectives. Alduin and Auri-El, as far as I know, are very similar. Akatosh is quite different because he's the Imperial perspective. Because the Aedra are "trapped" in Mundus, the beliefs of mortals have a lot of influence over them. Because Imperials believe Akatosh to be benevolent, that is how he appears to them.

They're all the same god though.

We'll found out in game, or in an interview or something. Right now some sources mention that the Nordic and Cyrodiilic pantheons are enemies, although they have very similar deities. But so does every other religion on Nirn.

Bipolar? Ha! No, wrong psychological problem. Bipolar is extremes of happy and sad.

No, the ol' time god has multiple personality disorder. He's the World Skin (I think. Damn Redguards and their confusing mythos), Auriel, Alduin, and recently Akatosh (since the first era, the rest are pre-Mundus)

You read http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1179529-igns-top-10-gods-in-elder-scrolls/ thread, saw this post:

I don't like the paragraphs about Akatosh and Alduin. I think the lore is pretty clear that Akotash and Alduin are one in the same.

And decided to make a thread of your own asking a question to which you already knew the answer to? If you want details, look it up for cripes' sakes.

Alduin isn't really the Nordic version of Akatosh - it's the other way around. Akatosh is the Imperial version of Alduin/Auri-El, and was actually a political compromise to allow the freed former slaves that made up the Imperial population to "sort-of" continue to believe in the merish pantheon they were accustomed to, without angering the Nords who they had been freed by (and who were on decidedly poor terms with the mer). This is why, unlike Alduin and Auri-El, which are two different views of the same basic concept (Dragon God of Time who both creates and destroys the world), Akatosh was decidedly pro-Man and was a guardian of the Empire. He still had his primary element (Time) but he wasn't the destroyer as well as the creator.

Of course, even while his attributes were different it is important to remember that Akatosh WAS the same as Alduin and Auri-El - reality and gods specifically can get a bit schizophrenic like that.

It's actually possible that the Allessian Order did fundamentally change Alduin/Auri-El when they caused the Dragon Break - and that changed God was Akatosh, who might have ceased to exist as an element of the Dragon God at the end of Oblivion, allowing the original, proper form(s) of the Destroyer to come back - therefore causing the crisis in Skyrim. I dunno whether that's supported anywhere in the lore or if it's just speculation, but I think it's a pretty cool story myself.

It's not that, I've just always thought of Aldun as his angry form.

It's not. It's his other personality. Having multiple perceptions in a world where believe and perceptions shape the world and gods do that. Hell, Shor, Shezarr, and Lorkhan are the same guy, different name, different views, and different aims yet hardly anyone disputes this. Also, Shezarr was a political move too, in order to curb a deity who is HIGHLY anti-mer, due to the time god.

If you ask me, too many people are attached to a [censored] political move.

Yeah, that's really all the ending of Oblivion was. It wasn't really Akatosh saving Tamriel out of the goodness of his heart. A lot more went into it than that, a big part of that being he didn't want the realm he's stuck in/inhabiting to be ruled by a Daedric Prince. I'm sure it had little to nothing to do with the mortals he also just happened to save.

Why so defensive? You seem to care more about that comment than the answers to your own questions. If you weren't interested in answers, why did you make this thread? Totally counter-productive either way. You should be busy reading. :nono:

That, or he got so mad when Martin smashed them amulet, that he got up, and breathed fire the first thing he happened to see. ^_^ He really did take his time with showing up though, the first time I beat Oblivion, I thought that I would have to have some sort of god of war type boss battle with Dagon. :bolt:

He doesn't have any disorder, that's absurd. You wouldn't say a soldier has multiple personality disorder because he kills people on the battlefield but is a nice person at home.
The world and people's view of him might have changed, but Akatosh is still Akatosh.

imo.

Well, if the Seven Fights of Alduggasdfasdfasd is correct, MD wanted to annihilate Mundus, not rule it. But, as it has been mentioned, the time god has a split mind. We just happened to see the Akatosh part. Now, we're going to see the Alduin part to end this kalpa!

Plus it might not even be the real Alduin, it might just be a large dragon who claims he is.

Ah, but don't forget the Boring And Therefore Wrong (BATW) clause that devs will use frequently. Plus, it would be REALLY BATW if it was just some evul dragon who called himself Alduin.

Yes. Alduin is supposed to be, pretty much, the size of Mundus, the ender of the currently kalpa, and with an appetite that never ends. A slightly larger dragon is highly BATW.

Time consumes all. Best to remember that, for it literally and metaphorically does in TES.
