[WIPz] Sotha Sil 2.0

Post » Tue Jan 05, 2010 5:04 pm

There haven't really been any major texture replacers for Sotha Sil as of yet, which was fine since you only look at him closely for a few moments in a dark room, but which sort of svcks if you're planning on bringing him to life (as I am :P) So, I'm working on a new texture, mainly using resources from the community. This is just a texture replacer, mind you: nothing overly fancy!

I won't show the model that appears in-game just yet, as I don't actually have permission for the head texture that I used, and I don't want to get in trouble. Instead, I'll be showing off the new textures on Oriphier's Sotha Sil armor for the time being :P

First up, the cuirass (firmly still in the WIP area, I just wanted to give people a taste):
http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/9862/sothasilcuirass.jpg
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/7900/sothasilcuirass2.jpg

As you can see, I've only done the front of his cuirass as of this moment. I noticed when I was looking at the textures that parts of his torso that I always assumed to be armored were actually his skin. His grungy, necrotic skin. Since I've always conceived Sotha Sil as being the least vain of the Tribunal (being more concerned with his gadgets and unwilling, in my opinion, to waste energy on his appearance), I've reimagined him here with the Dunmer textures. I've also used the leather resource from Elthar's Seamless Texturing Pack (the red bits) and the armor pieces are all from vurt's armor resource.

So... thoughts?

Man, that looks sweet! Old Sotha has been needing a facelift for a while, now. Can't wait to see more.

Looks great! Will you be releasing this as a resource? I'm going to include a version of Sotha Sil in my Dwemer mod but can't model for nowt.

Well, as long as your Sotha Sil references the vanilla textures, then it will use my replacer :)

The model isn't mine, it's actually a mod by Oriphier called http://elricm.com/nuke/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewsdownload&sid=2 [sic]. The download link is ElricM, so take that as you will. The only thing my mod changes is the texture.

Looks Amazing. I've been waiting years for someone to work on Sotha Sil. He is by far my favorite character in all of the Elder Scrolls series. Now only if there was a BG style replacer for his armor that goes along with the textures, xD.

Look's awesome St. Jiub :goodjob:

I'd cover up the exposed stomach though. Sil kind of looks like he's wearing a tank top

If you look at the original texture, he is sort of wearing a tank top. I didn't notice until I was looking closely, but all the areas where I have exposed flesh had exposed flesh to begin with :P It was gross and dirty and dark (just like his face and arm) and blended in with the brown-ness of his armor, so it's pretty easy to miss, I think. Thanks for the feedback, though, I could easily make an alternate version where the exposed stomach is covered with chainmail or something :D

Well, I imagine that AA is using Oriphier's Sotha Sil armor mod (available at ElricM) attached to the biped skeleton for the body. If that's the case, it will use my textures anyway :D

Hm... not letting me edit my posts for some reason. Anyway, ingame shot of above:

@vurt: Actually, without your resource, this mod wouldn't have happened. I saw it on PES and my very first thought was this project. Prior to that, I had no desire to make a Sotha Sil texture. I also must give credit to Westly, since I used two of his head textures as bases for his face and mask :) Thanks to both of you for all your work :D

EDIT: OK, now it seems to be working.

One more, because I can't resist (and it's more fun than actually working on the textures :P)

This one uses Azura's animations, which makes it not really viable for general use since it's constantly gesturing at you, but for screenshots...

As a big fan of Sotha Sil, I congratulate you. That is Very well done. Exactly How I pictured him.

Curious though, you going to make him floating around ( since technically he has no legs ) because that would be the more interesting. Although it is just a suggestion.

I've looked around at the existing animations for floating creatures-- Ancestor Ghosts, Bonelords (which I can't use because their skeleton is all weird), Dwemer Spectres and Azura being the most viable of the vanilla animations. I've even looked into Oshiel's animation replacer. They all have issues, so I'm not really sure of what to do. I'm going to let Archmaestro Antares take a crack at it, since he can actually craft animations and stuff :P His mod sounds better than mine in general, actually :shocking: You should check it out :P

Lol, I already have. I've been anticipating your mod, the Dagoth Ur replacer mod, And Anteres Alternate Tribunal the most of all. But I really like your texture work lol. I am somewhat knowledgeable at modeling and if I still had my program and had my computer I'd have made a better model of Sotha Sil myself lol.

I am a horrible texturer tho!

Looks nice, but a bit incomplete, since Sotha Sil is supposed to have a whole set of armor, and the whole floating deal is weird, I mean; this is a guy who actually started to care so much for his experiments and little for his body that he was in avery bad state when Almalexia....who would 50 cent say it? "put a cap in his @ss"

But he does float. Take a look at his depictions in the murals and shrines. Anyway, that's how I like him, so nyeh! :P
