[Relz] Souly Soulgems(!)

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 4:52 pm

It's a soulgem replacer.
My readme below pretty much sums it up.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v680/Wyver_Almasy/WA_Soulgems.jpg a picture, but download the mod (it lasts longer). Hope you like them.

--------------------------
1. DESCRIPTION
--------------------------
This is a small mod to replace the meshes, textures and icons of the soulgems in 'TESIII: Morrowind'. The new meshes are all reflect-mapped and, with the exception of Azura's Star, true to their original designs. They are all approximately the same size and should blend seamlessly into the world of Morrowind.
Azura's Star was modelled as a cross between how it appears in Morrowind and how it appears in the sequel, 'TESIV: Oblivion'.

A screenshot can be seen here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v680/Wyver_Almasy/WA_Soulgems.jpg

--------------------------
2. Installation
--------------------------
Installation is simple, just extract the three folders and the .esp into your 'Data Files' folder, answering 'Yes' to any overwrite or merge prompts that you are given.

The 'Data Files' folder is located wherever you installed Morrowind:
...\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind\Data Files

The next time that you play the game, go to the 'data files' submenu when the launcher pops up and double-click the entry in the list which reads WA_SoulGems(!). A cross should appear next to it, which means that it will be active when you play. To deactivate the mod, simply double-click the entry again.

***Advanced users (novices can just skip this bit)***

You may want to rename the meshes and icons and create a pluginless replacer, for your convenience, the stock names and filepaths for the meshes and icons are as follows:

meshes/m/misc_soulgem_petty.NIF
meshes/m/misc_soulgem_lesser.NIF
meshes/m/misc_soulgem_common.NIF
meshes/m/misc_soulgem_greater.NIF
meshes/m/misc_soulgem_grand.NIF
meshes/w/w_art_azurastar .nif

icons/m/tx_soulgem_petty.tga
icons/m/tx_soulgem_lesser.tga
icons/m/tx_soulgem_common.tga
icons/m/tx_soulgem_greater.tga
icons/m/tx_soulgem_grand.tga
icons/w/tx_art_azura_star.tga

Make sure to note that the resources for Azura's Star are not located where one would expect them to be, and that the mesh for Azura's Star has a TRAILING SPACE before the file extension. That was /not/ a typo up there. 'k?
'K ^__^

--------------------------
3. Uninstallation
--------------------------
Most users can uninstall this mod by simply deactivating the .esp under the data files menu, this will leave the files on your computer but stop them from interfering with play.
Advanced users may want to clean the resources off of their computer altogether - to do this, navigate to your data files directory and delete the following files:

wa_soulgems(!).esp

icons/wa/wa_sg_petty.dds
icons/wa/wa_sg_lesser.dds
icons/wa/wa_sg_common.dds
icons/wa/wa_sg_greater.dds
icons/wa/wa_sg_grand.dds
icons/wa/wa_sg_azurastar.dds

meshes/wa/wa_sg_petty.nif
meshes/wa/wa_sg_lesser.nif
meshes/wa/wa_sg_common.nif
meshes/wa/wa_sg_greater.nif
meshes/wa/wa_sg_grand.nif
meshes/wa/wa_sg_azurastar.nif

textures/wa/wa_sg_azura.tga
textures/wa/wa_sg_common.tga
textures/wa/wa_sg_grand.tga
textures/wa/wa_sg_grand_edge.tga
textures/wa/wa_sg_greater.tga
textures/wa/wa_sg_lesser.tga
textures/wa/wa_sg_petty.tga
textures/wa/wa_sg_rm_azura.tga
textures/wa/wa_sg_rm_cyan.tga
textures/wa/wa_sg_rm_cyan_purple.tga
textures/wa/wa_sg_rm_gold.tga
textures/wa/wa_sg_rm_green_brown.tga
textures/wa/wa_sg_rm_purple.tga
textures/wa/wa_gnr_rm_shiny.tga

I'll point out here that I don't recommend deleting the resources - some of them may well be used in my other mods (one of them, anyway) and deleting it will only cause problems. Only delete the files if you know what you are doing and are really, really sure that you want them gone.
It's also worth mentioning that if you converted it to a pluginless replacer, the above uninstallation instructions are invalid.

I like the common and the grand. Especially the grand...it actually looks like a gem. I always thought that it looked more like a coin in vanilla. Nice work.

Yeah, I'm quite pleased with how the grand one came out - I tried to make it look like a crystal set into a metallic hoop.
I'm not sure about the common ones personally

Thanks ^_^

Thanks Illius, thanks MidgetAlien

Tele is so helpful. :) He doesn't just provide the masses with great links, he even provides modders with links to their own work. You deserve a treat. :icecream:

Looks great! I liked the replacer I already had, but these are quite a bit better IMHO. :goodjob:
BTW, I have to say I still love your naming convention!

This release was just a diversionary tactic to make me seem less lazy :P

^__^ Thanks

Thanks ^_^
There are a number of really nice replacers out there already, but I just wanted to try one of my own ^__^

Thanks, the best thing about my naming convention is that I don't need to use my imagination :D

Hehe, sent you a PM EW for just that, a pluginless version i whipped up real quick like... err, because I can?

Tele is so helpful. :) He doesn't just provide the masses with great links, he even provides modders with links to their own work. You deserve a treat. :icecream:

Well since I'm the one that approved the mod over at ElricM.com I might as well give EW the link, yes? Otherwise EW has to check email, get the link, yada yada yada. My way is easier.

I like ice cream though...

Sail around the world and tell them all to keep singing it
la la la la la la
all we needs a harmony and we'll convince the world to sing
la la la la la la
throw your arms around someone (throw your arms around someone)
maybe spread a little love
I know it sounds a little dumb (or maybe I'm a little drunk)
But all we need is some ice cream and a hug

All we need is love and beer
And old school metal and holiday cheer
TO be happy
(All you need is someone near)
like ben and jerry
(to hold you close and pretend that they care)

Didn't realize that...hmm...I guess you can keep the ice cream for all the good you do, anyway.

Funfact: It is in the "W" folder because it is, in fact, a weapon.

Just not in the game. But it is in the Construction Set.

I've been wondering though. Do you think they were going to make it into a weapon and changed their mind, or do you think they were just messing around?
Was Azura's Star in the previous games?

Thanks ajeffreys, Johnny, Dreamer - I hope you enjoy them :)

Beautiful job! I never cared much for the original game's soul gems. Got Vibrant Morrowind 3 and I love the texture pack but I hated the soul gems that came with it (thought they looked even worse than the original), then I downloaded Moon's soul gems and deleted the icons that came with Vibrant Morrowind and I've been using that ever since. This will definitely be going into my game.

Secret people go around whispering that there was once an Azura's Star throwable weapon, and may still be in the CS. I wouldn't know, being too lazy to ever open up the CS.

These are amazing. They look like the soul gem replacers you made a few months back . . . but better. Congrats. :goodjob:

This will replace my current soul gem replacer as soon as the PES link is up. (I have to turn my firewall off to dowload mods from elricm anymore and im lazy enough not to adjust it to fix the situation  ) And i must say the common soul gem looks quite...dazzlingly eye cathing.
