sound effect mod recommendations

Post » Sun Jul 03, 2011 4:04 am

I like sound effect mods and normally install ASE, Ambient Town Sounds, MW Sound Enhancement and Wilderness Sounds for my game. After running across Pirate Lord Expanded Sounds and rereading some readmes, I'm wondering if that was overkill on my part.

The Sound Enhancement readme recommends using it with Wilderness Sounds. Wilderness sounds indicates it incorporated bitter coast sounds. Expanded Sounds says it was inspired by ASE and implies it borrows heavily from it. ATS is focused on towns, so I don't believe it overlaps the others.

Of these mods, what combination would give me the most coverage in the game without a lot of duplication? Is my original grouping (ASE, ATS, MwSE and WS) still the "best" choice?

Is there another sound effects mod that I should look at? Keep in mind, I'm not asking for suggestions about mods that add music. That's a totally separate discussion.

Thanks,

John

I use all those mods as well, merged them together and replaced the sounds I didn't like with .wavs from other games, most of them are from Arx Fatalis and Thief. I'm pretty sure you can find other files online as well and add those, if you know how to do that in the Construction Set. The only problem is how the ASE script works, if the duration of your new file doesn't match, it might end up getting cut or start looping.

All in all I'm pretty satisfied with the sound in my Morrowind right now. Just need to tweak the scrips a bit and add some more ambient sound for interiors, they're usually too quiet.

ASE + Xiran's Better Music System

Anything more is overkill.

@Kolthar, pretty much what I thought, too. I just wanted to be sure I wasn't overlooking something. It's pretty remarkable how well they have kept their enjoyment over the years, at least so for me :)
