SOUND THE ALARM WHEN SWAPPING OUT YOUR PS3 hdd

Post » Fri Dec 03, 2010 2:50 am

Has any one even considered the one simple thought that one day in the not too distant future that you want to upgrade your ps3 hard drive to fit every thing that you have.and that when this day comes, this will put your crisis 2 saves as well as the redemption code you get for getting the limited edition on ps3 at risk?......well.I'm at this cross road right now.I have a hefty 500 GB HDD ready for my ps3.but before I do any swapping of the hdd.I emailed the tech group and have not gotten a response as to what I should do.can any one help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????? I don't want to lose my precious saves or even the limited edition redemption code.if ea replies saying that I have to pay to get a new redemption code I will give up on crisis 2.!!!!!!!!!

(as if right now I am more concerned about the redemption code that I got with limited edition because its a one time use only, because I don't know if the bonuses from that will transfer over to the new hdd I'm ready to put in.)
so can any one help me!?!?!?

You cant copy,i tried so i could play on my brothers PS3. Its says locked & copyrighted and wont let you move the game data. I tried with Crysis2 and Army of TWO : 40th Day,and niether will let you move it. It will let me copy it to a online Playstation Plus Account if I had one,but I dont and PS+ is down.
Check it out for yourself,go into game data and select info,it also doesnt show any usb drive thats connected when you select copy,it only gives you an option for copy to PS+.

^Makes sense...that way people dont cheat to get trophies through game saves etc. You tried to move it to a diff ps3?, and was it your profile you tried to move it to?

It was my profile, but i have one on his too,we shared some of the MW2 maps,he bought one and i bought the other. But on my registered console is the one that wouldnt let me copy anything. But i see your point,i read about people manipulating game save data for Black Ops all the time, and it was bad in MW2.

How many ps3s do you have? One way would be to hook up both ps3s then hook them both up via ethernet cable to each other and transfer all your stuff from your profile over that way. Put the hdd in one of the ps3s then transfer all your data from the ps3 with your info to the one with the 500gb then swap hdds

I'm not entirely sure what saves you are refering to, so i might be out of the blue here.
Anyway, the blueray reader on my old PS3 died last summer shortly after i got BFBC2. They don't repair the old ones so i got a new ps3 from germany shipped to me (same old version though). The online pass for BFBC2 was tied to my psn-account so all i had to do was to download the mappacks and stuff (no cost) and start playing again. My bet is that all kinds of redemption codes are tied to your account and it doesn't matter if you swap hdd. Codes, stats and trophies was there for me and all i lost was singleplayer savegames.

As of right now, i only have one.
so thats what makes this into a big problem.

Well the idea for this thread was that right out of the box, the redemption code bluntly says that its a one time use code. so in this case im worried.
My assumption is that its saved not to my account but to my hdd.
and so this presents a problem for me.
but you this actually does put my mind at ease.
i never did think about it like that.

The thing is i dont want to spend like 20 extra dollars just to put my crysis data on a cloud then put it back on my new hdd.
i dont even plan on buying anything from the psn store with the exception of the new map packs for this game.
but thanks though.

k, but since when you downloaded the code you used the psn store, you might have to also wait for that to come up since it is down right now. You would have to go into the store-->download history--> look for the limited editition code download--> and redownload that easy

Use the backup utility and backup to a external fat32 formatted hardisk. Swap in your new drive. After ps3 startup restore from external hardisk. Everything will be just as it was before.
