Doesn't work for me...
It's a bug and I've all my time to wait the fix by bethesda, but, I'm surprised that is not solve 1 month after the release.

I'm a .Net developer and I understand the difficulty to debug Skyrim especilly if the debug team is a small team...
Thx for all Bethesda, but this disapointing bug takes too much time for my taste...

Music volume on the main menu and footsteps ingame are very faint, almost inaudible unless i crank my speakers volume up sky high. Using a Creative X-fi Xtreme gamer and Creative GigaWorks T40 Series II Speakers. Windows is up-to-date along with DX and Drivers. Only game i have this problem with.

Wow so almost 70% of the people have a low volume issue here? That's a lot. I hope Bethesda can fix this. It would be bad to have to do a volume changing routine for the next... year or so... we'll play Skyrim.

Just tried that... didn't work. Darn :(
Maybe your poll isn't accurate - try posting it in the General forum, with a subject like "Need your vote to figure this out" and don't mention LOW SOUND in your title. I reckon a lot of threads get ignored if they aren't relevant to people, hence they wont vote and you wont get a true representation.

Got a heads up from a friend that was having this issue, setting the speakers to 5.1 even though he's on a single pair of speakers actually fixed the problem for him. Might be worth a try for you guys.

Despite all of the handy work-arounds and hotfixes players have come up with, I'd much rather have the developers make it so their game plays at the same default level as anything else. Having to turn up my speakers just to be able to hear Skyrim is annoying.

Oftentimes voices are really low, especially when dramatic music is playing at the same time. I have music turned down and all other sounds maxed and it still doesn't quite do it. The volume on my PC is on max as is my headphones volume adjust (which is separate). I suppose I could try my old Soundblaster Audigy 2 to see if its better than the integrated Realtek, but I really don't want to mess with it.

I normally have my speakers at 44% for all games and normal PC usage, but when playing Skyrim I have to turn it to 100%.

This is an issue with Skyrim and Bethesda is aware of it. I've heard for fixes for headphones. I suggest you use the search function, because this has been discussed a lot before.

I highly recommend you turn on http://oi42.tinypic.com/34zipau.jpg. It'll double the volume, but it will make Skyrim audible.

If you have a Realtek Audio chipset (or a few others) here are some things to try:

- Change the speaker setup to 5.1
- Change the Environment Preset to "Live"
- Change the "Default Format" under Advanced to 48000Hz (Properties for Speakers)
- If all else fails, Loudness Equalization

I just have a generic "IDT High Definition Audio" codec and Beats Audio. :( Beats Audio is pretty much useless... If you're in similar situation, Loudness Equalization is the only option.
I can't even take advantage of the "Independent headphones" due to windows flagging it as a communications device(rendering it useless).

I've experimented with fAudioMasterVolume setting from 1.0 all the way to 9.0

results.. NOthing..

- Change the speaker setup to 5.1 -Does NOthing

Only for Windows 7. Does not even exist on my computer.
- Change the Environment Preset to "Live"
- Change the "Default Format" under Advanced to 48000Hz (Properties for Speakers)
- If all else fails, Loudness Equalization

End result: NOTHING

Sound is just as low as it was to begin with.

This has been a big issue for ppl, but since that doesn't affect gameplay in more ways than make you turn your volume up at the start of each session, Bethesda has propably scheduled it to the bottom of their To-Do list.

To resolve the issue they would have to change the way in which Skyrim mixes audio and this requires quite a bit of coding, I guess. I wonder when they will "have the time" to adress it...

The Environment Preset is specific to Realtek HD Audio Chipsets and may not be available with your chipset. I can confirm it's an option on Windows XP as well as Vista. You specifically need to use the Realtek Sound Manager to change this.

Default Format is available on Windows XP as well as Vista.

Loudness Equalization for Realtek HD Audio Chipsets is available on XP as well as VIsta.

If you have a Realtek HD Audio chipset and don't have any of these options, you need to update your drivers from Realtek's website.

it doesn't do a [censored] thing

stop telling me it works, it doesn't

here this also resolved

Gstaff PMed me before like a few weeks ago and asked me to mail him my sound settings and hardware list etc etc, about this specific low sound problem.

So my guess is that they've worked on it and they are very much aware of it.

It seems the majority of PC users have the problem, at least here on the forums:http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1308380-bethesda-fix-the-low-sound/page__p__19680615#entry19680615

So far, Loudness equalization has worked best for me, but it's tedious to turn it on/off all the time when playing Skyrim.

Hi, I've the problem and I'm waiting the fix to start my firts game and I can tell you that it's horrible, I'm waiting since 48 days + 3 years of wating !!!

Seriusly, I've a partial solution for realtek users with 2.1 sound.
In the realtek audio center, set sound to 5.1, enable just right, left and the bass and active audio enhencement.
That's quite good but the voice are too low because a big part of the voice sound is in the center speaker witch is disable.

Bethesda staff, pls fix that.

I have SB Live! 24 bit..

Is that what you mean? My sound card?
I checked and it has had no updates on drivers since 2007 or something?
