So it sounds like Power-Armor will be a pain to use:

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 7:18 pm

You most probably can use it because your character is a war veteran.

What made no sense is the Power Armors needing no refills in the past games. Such high-tech mechanism in a world where Renewable Energy did not advance much NEEDS something to power it.

Granted, that can all be explained by "Player himself not having to do it but the character doing it" just like it is with eating and drinking in all games.

What makes no sense.... is that you would need to refill a miniature nuclear powered device during the course of playing that character. Sure maybe after a decade of use (if I recall correctly), the decay may show noticable effeciency loss - if it were an RTG for example -Radioisotope thermalelectric generator.

I can foresee a Mr Fusion mod that requires banana peels and nuka cola to power up PA!

And there are other examples of fusion technology working, or at least having energy. The whole "hundreds of years after the war" doesn't really hold any weight when other factions are using the technology and even creating new fusion packs of the same, or better, quality than pre-war.

I'm still trying to figure out how the heck you would aim the fusion core since you can rig it to go off and launch it.

I guess vats?

You sure look and feel almighty, powerful, and tanky in Power Armor. Until a Deathclaw lifts you in the air, then body slams you while you're still in full Power Armor...then you realize who the real tank is.

from the leaked vids: You can use Power Armor even if it's empty and out of fusion cores, as you will just be walking around inside of it, however. This can work well with a maxed out Strong Back, as you can then fast traveled while over-encumbered.

So in other words: you don't need fusion cores to make Power Armor work, but you certainly need it if you wanna go fast.

That and Fusion Cores aren't that rare, apparently....what a shocker.

"But I shouldn't have to cheat or mod the game to play how I want!"

Not my view but figured we'd get it out of the way quickly :P

Hm, can the existence of the T-60 and abundance of tech be directly related to MIT's proximity? In this alternate universe, I can easily see the highest points of innovation being driven by pure military application.

On the flip, if stuff is that common, you'd expect it to be traded or hinted at far and wide.

I guess? On your theory that is, the Fusion Core thing is without a doubt sold by some of the traders out there. I seriously wish I was joking on Fusion Cores (the very sound of this object with COMMON in the same sentence makes me chuckle) on being common, but they are. Since most 'treasure' or loot on enemies, containers, etc. is now randomized, it's best to get that Luck up to 10. and Intelligence up to 9 to get the most out of your Fusion Cores. Kind of funny, people were theorizing that PA would be rare, or the cells would be, to prevent issues of imbalance, but yeah, it looks like that's thrown out the window.

I guess people just don't know how to use it still, so Preston Garvey wants us to do it instead of doing it himself in the trailer. That's my assumption of course.

Well, PA is very sixy itself IMHO (damned, I just love it - I'd love it more if they kept it like it always was (an armor, not a damned mech -.-), while really making it what it's supposed to be: Something that enhances a soldier far beyond what's normally possible (strength, movement speed (come on: it shouldn't slow you down it's got servos exactly for that purpose!), durability (small arms shouldn't damage you at all - the enemy should need heavier weapons to even scratch you!) etc. etc.)

Well, I hope that it becomes less of a pain the more you upgrade it (if not: Mods -.- I hate having this cool armor and not being able to use it) - it would fit the lore (early models needed to be recharged all the time, but later models (and early ones that had been upgraded) didn't because they had been fitted with a power cell that lasts basically forever (well: a century of continued use as far as I remember!))

greetings LAX

ps: Who said we can't fast-travel when wearing it and: Has that been confirmed?

Where we're going, we don't need cores.

I don't get it. If you're going to force the player to refuel power armor in order to limit their usage of it... why would you make the cores required to refuel it common? That's not balance, that's just tedium.

This is starting to feel like one of those halfhearted features that Bethesda didn't think through, and only introduced so that they could say they did something new\different.

And that job is?

They did a feature and balanced it based on their design. If somebody doesn't like it and alter the values, that's their taste. Isn't necessary or possible to please everyone with the same numbers. I know the game would be without any challenge if they just let PA run like when it doesn't even let you take any damage before breaking. Think of Morrowind blocking with Daedric shields but you don't even need to block.

That's the thing, based on the leaks I don't think this system seems very "balanced".

I'll withhold my final judgment until I actually play the game for myself, but I can't say what I've heard is very encouraging.
