So it sounds like Power-Armor will be a pain to use:

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 4:20 pm

Wouldn't mind this. Without a new power core, PA slows your run speed and turning speed, but still ups your damage resistance. The higher functions either don't work or have decreased abilities; night vision may get a little static-y, jump jets don't work, etc.

In statistical, FO3 terms, you'd lose that +2 strength buff.

I like the changes to PA. I never felt it was worth it to use due to it only being slightly better but having drawbacks. I'm more inclined to use it now that it feels more special and obviously will have more meaningful stats

Cores seem a good move, allowing us to get PA early on in the game. Previous ones it's been held off till quite late at which point it's not needed.

This screams action/fps game mechanics, where you see a cool vehicle or item for a certain segment of the game to be used in that area. More scripted or cinematic games usually.

Hopefully in FO5 heavy weapons don't get power-armore'd. (Oh look, pick up this FATMAN for this scripted shooting sequence, but you can't take it with you.)

I agree with everyone game balance is important. But so is build choices and being able to do what you want.

Maybe they should (or a MOD?) have balanced PA to be more liberal if you heavily build for it: A very high rank SPECIAL to allow fast travel and speed, high INT perk to ignore fueling, and still some down sides like more vulnerable to certain weapon typed, and less sprint speed?

Since I'm not a fan of up-keep and situational items in rpgs (almost always end up never using aids/stims/companions), and usually build around them, I"ll probably ignore PA totally and just try build my Unarmed dude with more tanky perks.

The thing that makes bethesda games great is not the progression in the railroaded sense - that so much of the community seems to be bent on. No, these games excel when they entertain many asymmetrical solutions/progress. PA should be as powerful as the lore calls for, not the game mechanics.

I'm sick and tired of progtessive HP inflation metrics. I hope they base all stats off of or around special/ perks, and not meta tweaking it to be more difficult.

Who the hell cares about game balance in a single player game? I want to have fun. Let me have fun. What is important is all methods of play be viable which is completely separate to balancing. It's not like this is a competition or anything. Of all the dumb things they do is this. But they don't put hardcoe in? Weird. Very weird.

Im fine with this. PA is basically a single person armoured vehicule. Shouldnt be something you can just "slip into".

I've run melee builds in every game and never put on PA but once....never missed it.

To be honest, this method seems like it may be useful at times and I might actually work it into my gameplay.

I dunno, as long as it's not a requisite for all armors, then I won't have an issue with it. If my T-51b with fusion reactor that is supposed to last hundreds of years is drained in less than an hour, then I'll be pretty pissed off.

Good news is that Xbox is getting mods too, so I'm sure this will be fixed soon. Yes. I mean fixed.

Assuming power cores are reasonably obtainable and last at least 30 min real time I will go on record as saying the new BGS concept of power armor is by far better than any other concept of power armor in any FO game.

haha "balance doesn't matter in a single player game"

So if Bethesda left all weapons damage as "Fill in whatever you want" people would honestly consider that fun or do they just not care about a challenge?

An improvement if you ask me. Makes perfect sense, at least the old version that the PC is wearing.

Speaking strictly for myself if I want a challenge I turn to reality. I play games to steamroll everything in sight dispensing shotgun justice without a care in the world. B)

I like the new PA it looks more like a "ace in the hole " thing which it should be not just another outfit to slip on.
i plan on only using it if

A.I'm having trouble clearing a area of bad guys
B.Epic battles like boss battles
C.i just wanna goof off and save the game then proceed to massacre a city or two.

and THAT is exactly what mods, cheats, and super easy modes are for. Even mindless buttonmashers are designed with balance in mind.

If this is your reality that you could turn to though there's something wrong where you live! Is it near Chernobyl?

I just never used it in any of the other games. Just not the type of character I played. I hope it's not 'required' to be used on that Minute Man scene we saw, but it sure looked like it was. But maybe they've made it so it's able to fit role-plays better now (since you apparently don't need a perk or anything to use it).

Nobody said this is my reality don't be silly. I merely said if I want challenge I turn to reality. If there is no challenge in your life then you are either very lucky or well you're just very lucky

I am wondering now what drains the actual battery. Is it moving or just being in the darn thing? or maybe just using the jump jets or light?

What I hope to see is:

Drains when activating abilities, like recoil dampening, power melee strikes and jump jets. When the core runs out you can still use it, but you move slowly and turn sluggishly. No ability can be used and getting out of the armor is a slow process since the back-hatch is no longer mechanically assisted. the caveat here is since the battery is out, enemies can sneak behind you and activate a finisher when they open up a back armor plate and shoot\stab you through the opening.

Somehow i think you just get out when the meter runs out, and it's a slow drain with faster drain when the jets are used. we will nee next week.

Nah I think it's how we view reality. There is plenty of challenge but I want a fun challenge.

My friend and I would always argue about it. I prefer sim-like games (I race iRacing, a realistic racing sim, or Falcon BMS, an F-16 fighter sim) and he prefers the usual video games, especially DOTA-like and MOBA games. He'd always say something to the effect of what you're saying, trying to escape reality. And I'd say if my reality was racing cars and flying fighter jets, I'd never need video games!

Hm? It is more away from the lore than ever.

But you have to refill the T-60 within the game which makes no sense.
