So it sounds like Power-Armor will be a pain to use:

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 9:29 am

From info comming out it seems like a cumbersome vehicle that requires upkeep and can't fast travel with it on.

Oh well, I guess this will be the first ever FA were I just don't use PA every second I possibly can once I get it, lol. I hope this doesn't hurt melee builds.

That's how I expected the power amour to be from what we saw at the E3, they don't want you to be reliant on it.

As someone who usually doesn't fast travel anyway (You'd be amazed at how much more quickly you level up when you walk back and forth everywhere instead of teleport), this sounds great!

I usually don't use PA if I don't have to. It obscures the hot looks of my female characters.

That's good! It really makes you use it as a last resort of sorts when your about to go into an area where [censored] gets real.

This is not news. PA has never really been my bag but I think I prefer this approach to the normal if good armor it was before.

I'm torn. On the one hand, I thought it was total butt-poop that Ranger combat armor was only two DR points away from Power Armor. On the other, I'd rather Bethesda not retcon the hell out of my Power Armor. It looks like we're going to be able to obtain a PA suit pretty early on now, but I would rather have it be a late-game item than have them retcon fusion power cores from a 200 year life to a 2 hour life.

I withhold opinion until I get my hands on some and see how it feels.

Good, hopefully it will force me to actually look at my character that i will spend at least 30 mins on for once!!!

Regardless, i sense that by late game you will be able to wear it almost as often as you will like.

But hey, it will make me recon areas for once. If it looks like I may get rightfully owned i may than plan on getting enough power to power the armour. I personally cant wait and my hype is finally starting to climb to E3 levels again.

So is the T-60 the only PA in the game we can have? Nothing from the previous games?

Look at the Weapon Customization E3 video. It clearly shows a bunch of different armor that we can use like the T-45b, T-51b, T-60b, and X-01 Mk II (Enclave) Power Armor,

T-45d is supposed to run off more limited power sources. It could be that finding the more indefinite power source is much harder to do a late-game item. We also don't know how hard recharging fusion cores will be or if you can carry spares. The fusion cores might even recharge themselves over time which would mean they do last 200 years but need time to rest instead of running 24/7.

All material released so far indicates interchanging parts from various suits of power armor including T-51b, T-45d and what appears to be Enclave Power Armor from fallout 3.

I was assuming that Bethesda might have been inspired to have a new PA from what could have found in Van Buren, the Athena Power Armor. It was a secret research project being developed by the Enclave and Poseidon Energy.

Previous fallout games have done a diservice to the usefulness of power armour. Your an absolute beast in power armour but have limited mobility etc. I think this new way is more realistic to how this type of armour could be used.

PA was a major research project during the war with China. It evolved and yes it was bulky but it was never the "beast" that the T-60 will be in FO4. It should add to the lore, not change it.

Then you have not seen all of the reports. You have to remember the source of this information is mostly from a bunch of people who for lack of a better term "svck" and really have no basis to form an opinion. Provided the footage that has been shown is legit PA looks like t has been designed as it was meant to be. You are essentially a smaller version of an Abrams Tank. I've seen it move. It can put out some run time and Pain Train looks like it will be fun as hell to use.

Really? Power Armor in Fallout 1 and 2 made you a walking tank virtually immune to most weapons you'd encounter in the wastes. The gap between the best combat armor and power armor was huge. It took heavy duty military weapons or a rare armor ignoring critical hit to cause you serious harm. You towered over other humanoids and had a wide bulk, power armor made you a beast in the original games.

Exactly it was in F3 and FNV that powerarmor was less than impresive and out of lore streinght wise, now about the fussion cores rly hard to say but than again we dont know exactly how that works later in the game since the assumptions from spoilers are all based on PA you recive very early in the game.(and lore wise earlier PA models did require bateries and had very limited field usability cuz of it), but even if it stays like that for all the powerarmors in the game(while it wud be retconing the lore a lil bit) i do think it makes an interesting balancing mehanics.

Maybe they should have made it a rank 4 Strength 10 perk allow Power Armor to be used more liberally for tanky melee players?

Power armor used to add 3 or 4 strength. Its "powered" armor it shouldn't require much strength to use at all

Just mod 10,000 fusion core/ bombs into your game

Holy crap I just realized that that one perk turns your power armor into a nuclear pinto given the location of the power core. how on earth did I miss that?

Im betting we will be able to craft the fusion cores. Sounds like there are some new resource management elements folded into the gameplay where crafting is regarded.

Well, if armor is as versatile as it looks. I'm sure you can make or find some pretty beefy armor for melee characters. In one of the official videos you can see what looks like a female raider wearing part of a power armor leg piece along with the rest of her cobbled together metal armor. I took a screenshot of it awhile ago which you can see here. http://i.imgur.com/44c8STb.png Even if that's not actually power armor and just metal armor. It would suggest that metal armor can be as bulky looking as old power armor used to look.

I want to play a Tank as soon as possible, I do not want to have to build a collection of Power Armors scattered through Boston to get the Tanky Goodness that the Bethesda Fallouts have failed to deliver in 3 and New Vegas.
