Soundtrack for Skyrim

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2009 1:27 am

I know you can edit the tracks at any time on the PC, but if you could have a song used as inspiration for the music in Skyrim, what would you pick? Personally I think http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMVmW0k9jZI from Conan the Barbarian sounds awesome and I would love music similar to this while traveling through towns. That's another part of the request, you have to say when in the game would the song sound fitting. Perhaps some people like thundering music and others like gentle music for things like combat or cutscenes. Lemme hear it.

Once I experience the in-game soundtrack for some time, and get a play-through done, I'll probably make my own track consisting of mostly Amon Amarth. Viking Death Metal seems to fit Skyrim.

I think most dwarf related themes from the Lord of the Rings Online would work rather well. :D

Jeremy Soule inspires me plenty good, so I'm thrilled he's back at the writing helm. I still fire up Oblivion and let the menu just sit there and listen to that opening piece over and over still sometimes. I personally think it's a masterpiece. The 6/8 time is perfect for that epic feel, and he builds up and then the bottom just drops out into that slow majestic 1/2 time movement. It's just magnificent IMO. I personally cannot wait to hear what he does with this!

Something like this would sound great while climbing the steps to High Hrothgar. Thanks for sharing.

I prefer no music personally. It just doesn't make sense that here I am going thru this cave or whatever, and somehow there's this entire orchestra playing somewhere.

But it would be cool if (let's say) we go into a tavern and a bard is in the corner singing or playing a lute or something. There needs to be musicians to really create a believeable atmosphere, not an invisible orchestra. That's just me.

As to what music should be played by these random musicians, I can't really say, anything that sounds Middle-agey or Renaissancey. Sorry I can't be more specific, I don't know any specific musicans from these eras.

I'd like at least one song with the bagpipes, or even better the Uilleann pipes! I dont think EVERY song need orchestra instruments, as nice as they are.
Heres a nice example of the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_DHjgI63nw.

I imagine this playing as a cutscene reveals a town being massacred by dragons. It's very intimidating.

If you look at the gameplay trailer you can see a man playing the lute (when that one guy gets his throat slit).

A little brass is okay, but don't forget woodwinds, voice and strings please.

I will be listening...
