South of the Airport

It's weird south of the airport.

Inspired by the thread where the Searchlight Airport is described as a useless location, I decided to try to make it interesting. Couldn't climb on top of the fuel tanks, so I piled five dead baby radscorpians on top of the door overhang, just to the right of the storage trunks. This allowed me to jump onto the roof, and jump off the south side, into the unknown.

Walked south on the road, which eventually disappeared. Kept walking until I was too far south to show up on the map, across what appears to be a vast plain of brown oatmeal.
Eventually I decided to walk east to the Colorado, and by trial and error(and a couple of fatal falls  ) managed to hop down to the river. The Colorado is slightly radioactive,
downstream of Dry Wells at this point. As I swam north, the radiation disappeared at some point, and I eventually came up on the south side of the water barrier fence, with no sign of Dry Wells at all. This is post LR, so I was sort of expecting to find it.

This is the first time I've gotten off the map, but surely many of you have done this before. So how did you get "over the wall", and what adventures did you have?
