v1.0

12/11/15

As with many of you I picked up my copy of FO4 on release day, ran home and after installing I bound my keys and was off to the wasteland once again only to find out that beth had really dropped the ball or didn't care when it came to the keybinding. It was and still is a complete and total mess. I found if funny that in the beta they gave us the option to bind the num pad thinking it would make everything better! Well it didn't.

I spent the first few weeks of the games release looking for workaround to the shoddy job beth did! I tried Auto Hotkey which worked but had it's own issues. I finally gave up and reset the keys back to default and tried to stumble through the game with the vanilla keys. I can say it was a miserable experience to say the least. Finally F4SE released and a friend told me that about the only thing it really did at the moment was to allow keybinding so I went off to rebind my keys even if that meant the menus would show the wrong key.

I came across http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2107/?and was just amazed by this spectacular piece of work! I was using it and loved it but well "They just weren't my keys"! I started poking around the treads and Mofakin was so forthcoming with the information on how the mod was done I decided to try my hand at it myself.

Again I made this for myself and my style of play. I decided I should release it because we need more support for southpaws. If you see any bugs, Typos, miss matched keys or just have a suggestion to improve the interface please feel free to leave a comment.

Description

SouthPaw UI is a keybinding for the chosen few, it remaps 99% of the vanilla keys to a left handed orientation. There are vary few keys that fall south of the "R Alt key!" The acceptions are Esc (pause), F5 (Quicksave), F9 (Quickload). Using F4SE and the tutorials by Mofakin I have re-mapped and re-labeled every menu. (I think I got them all but I'm only about half way through the game) There is a long list of re-mapped keys to I'll stop this and get to the list.

Requirements

http://f4se.silverlock.org/

Installation

Drop all files included in this archive into Fallout4 data folder or use NMM's package managers to install. Activate mod with NMM.

there is no .esp it's just a .swf replacer.

the files live in Fallout4\Data\Interface

Fallout.ini: sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\, TEXTURES\, INTERFACE\, SOUND\, MUSIC\, VIDEO\, MESHES\, PROGRAMS\, MATERIALS\, LODSETTINGS\, VIS\, MISC\, SCRIPTS\, SHADERSFX\

It only needs the "Interface\" entry, but you if you haven't added all of those & not using any .ini config tool, you might as well do it.

Launch the game and set any keybinding you have back to default. I have not tested this with any other keybinding accept for the mouse buttons. re-bind your keys at your own risk.

Uninstallation

Remove all file included with this archive from your Fallout4\Data folder or uninstall via NMM's package manager if you installed with it.

Known Issus

  • When starting a new game the Main Title menu will show the default keys. It seems the loose file layout doesn't load when starting a new Char. However they will load by the time you get to the intro Movie. Just remember that what was "T" is now Help/Ins and What was "X" is now Home.
  • Pipboy status menu still has the " E " to activate the stimpack. The key is not hardcoded but there is some fancy scripting going on in the .swf that won't allow me to bind it at the moment.

Credits

Mofakin and http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2107/?, Thank you for being so forthcoming with the information on how to edit the .swf files. I'm a noob when it comes to editing UI files but if there is ever anything I can do to help you out please let me know.

The http://f4se.silverlock.org/team, Thank you for being so quick to action and making this game better for everyone.
