Spear Town RP idea

Post » Sat Jun 25, 2011 2:53 am

I’m thinking of starting a new RP, and (like so many before me) I want to gauge the community’s interest. What I was thinking, is that the NCR has decided to push further east into Legion territory after it’s victory at the Second Battle of Hoover Dam. The Legion is essentially obliterated, and the power vacuum has caused the territory once held by Caesar to be controlled by localized gangs of raiders and tribals, as it once was. Now, the NCR has built a settlement in what was once the Kaibab National Forest. The settlement is rather large, and is completely walled in except for one gate to the west, and one to the east.

This settlement, known as Spear Town (due to the walls of pointed logs made from the dead trees in the area), has attracted much negative attention from both the remnants of the Legion, and the raider gangs in the area. Recently the town has been suffering a string of attacks, though most of them are small bands and are easily repelled, though it has caused the city’s growth to slow down, and so the NCR has decided to send out an invitation to all of those within it’s borders. Farmers, builders, and simple settlers looking for a new home are all welcome. Mostly though, the NCR is hoping to attract mercenaries to supplement it’s troops in the area, because the officials back west have been refusing to send reinforcements.

You could choose to be either a member of the NCR already there, or you can choose to be one of the newcomers who have chosen to make a new life (or earn some NCR paper money if you’re a mercenary). Basically the RP would go through a day or two of average RPing and building relationships with other characters, followed by short bursts of action in the form of raids by Legion remnants, raiders, or tribals.

If enough people are interested, I’ll make the RP, write up a full background for the town and make a character sheet and all of that other hooplah.

I find this pretty interesting.
Is it also possible for us to make up a raider gang/tribal?

I suppose you could make one if you had a good idea on how to do it. I was mulling the idea around, and I thought it might be hard for the people with raider characters to do anything between raids, and the town wouldn't exactly welcome them with open arms. The only way I think it can be pulled off is possibly as a spy, but again, if you have another idea that could pull it off, I'd allow it.

I'd probably be a mercenary since I'm not the biggest NCR fan but this idea seems actually nice. A "how long can you last" type RP like Left 4 Dead...only with A LOT less zombies and A LOT more raiders.

How come you can't be a legion character?

If you read my second post, I say you can, but it'll be difficult for you to do, since you'd be an enemy of the town you'd be living in. Again, if you think you can do it in a way that would work with the RP, then by all means, you're allowed to do it.

I might join when you post the cs up. This isn't such a bad idea. If there are more people, I'll definately join.

I'll put up a rough CS when I get home from work (typing this from my phone). So, how would people feel if the CS included a bit for perks from the games? Obviously skill perks would be useless in an RP, but others, such as Nerd Rage, And Stay Back, Adamantium Skeleton, Cyborg, Slayer, and others could be interesting, so long as the maximum amount of perks is low, around 2 or 3 (to prevent overpowered characters). What do you think? If people would rather I leave out the perks section of the CS, that's fine too.

Seems interesting enough.

If it proves successful in gaining in a large enough audience, I'll join in. Though, just as a warning, many RPs seem to die rather quickly in the forums if they are not properly maintained and well supplied with new events. It'll take a good amount of commitment to get this rolling, I hope you can handle it.
If you need a Co-Gm of the sorts, to help organize your idea, make plans, and keep the RP running when your low on time, I'll help out. :foodndrink:
Also; As for the idea of perks, I'd recommend not implementing them. Skills tend to replace them in a much more RP-worthy format. But, again, that is your choice. ;)
