SpearMagic Build.

Post » Mon Jun 09, 2014 9:06 pm

I just recently decided to play Morrowind again, as I typically do every Summer and I was hoping to come up with a build that id be able to complete the expansions with. I've owned the game since 2004 and have never completed the expansions. The last time I tried, I got killed nearly instantly in Bloodmoon.

So, I'd like to come up with a build that shouldn't have too much trouble completing the expansions. I've never made a spear using character and I've rarely used magic in the past.

Would a Spear wielding Battle Mage of sorts be capable of completing both expansions? I'm not great at making builds, so I was hoping you all could assist me. I know Argonians are great with Spears but I'd prefer to not use them if possible.

This is very possible; it's one of my favorite characters. I'd pick Nord for the Spear bonus, the high racial resists, and general robustness. No magic skills, true but with the Atronach sign you'll have enough magicka and be almost immune to magic attacks.

My last character like this was built so:

Nord/Atronach

Combat

Str/Int

Restoration

Alchemy

Destruction

Alteration

Spear

Enchant

Heavy Armor

Blunt (builds Str and lets you switch to Sunder if you want)

Medium Armor (for Ebony Mail)

Athletics (I like it and don't use BOBS)

You could drop the last two but the majors are important.

Develop Alchemy soon to make restore health and magicka potions and you won't have a problem with Atronach. Your Spear will take care of you in the early going.

edit: I was thinking about my first build like this and remembered that I diverted for a long time swimming around the Island using Alteration for water breathing and Spear for slaughterfish hunting. This was a lot of fun. There's a lot going on under water especially if you can use Abot's WaterLife.

Looks like a pretty solid build to me. My last character was a full on Warrior and died on the first quest in Solstheim. Hopefully this one will fare a bit better, thank you for the suggestion!

Spears are extremely effective if you've got room to backpedal, but they don't deal as much sheer Damage Per Second as a lot of other weapons. In a close-range bash-fest with your back to the wall, you might find yourself outclassed. That's where Magic comes into play, to recover the edge by either messing with the opponent's ability to fight you, or by inflicting some kind of slow health-sapping attack that steadily wears them down (a lot cheaper to cast than an instant effect).

Hm, a Nord with a spear major is going to have no problems maxing END and getting a ton of health. They can also use frost/shock safely against all the hardest mooks (who reflect a lot of the time). Wam, bam.

Yup, you're Odin.

That sounds like an awesome paythrough... Throw in some of the 'clever' skills, like Illusion and Mysticism, some Speechcraft for RP, maybe by dropping Alchemy and Blunt and Athletics... Swap Medium for Light armor, maybe? And you've got yourself a 'Clever Man' in the ancient Nordic tradition!

Think I'll get around to doing this someday...
