No spears is a slap in the face

Post » Sat Aug 07, 2010 4:26 am

The way I see it, how hard can it possibly be to put spears and pole arms int he game? It is something that TES fans REALLY want, Todd Howard knows this, so why not thank the fans for the years of support by simply adding them in? I personally didn't really care too much about spears until I heard Howard say that they were not in the game. Then it kind of irritated me. I think it is a slap int he face to the fans who have supported the series and made these guys rich, while Beth just keeps dumbing the game down at the expense of the wishes of the people who have always loved it, to try to appeal to a wider and dumber demographic. This, and a bunch of other things I have heard will definitely keep me from buying this game new. I will wait until it drops in price. I am actually going to go back and play all the old school PC RPGs that are actually REAL rpgs like Neverwinter Nights, Ultima, Heroes, etc. Oh, and of course a revisitation of Morrowind.

There are a lot of problems with spears, for one they offer an unfair advantage in any combat situation. Remember in Morrowind how you could sit there and hack away at the enemy and they couldn't get close enough to hit you with their short sword?

looks like another hen out of a feather thread, spears are not in because you need a whole new animation set, separate from the swing dominate animations of swords, axes and maces. Also Todd said "no spears in the traditional sense" which would sugest Polearms, since they are swung like the other weapons.

I think spears is one of the least important things to have in the game. Especially since it seems we already have halberds.

Bethesda, if you're reading this; just focus on more important things. Like graphics, landscapes, dungeons, quests, dialouge, horses.

i bet todd will add in spears and they will svck. then the spears will svck so much that it will be a game breaker and modders will mod out spears because of how much they svck.

wouldn't that be funny?
hahaha but in all seriousness, spears are stupid

This has been discused many times.
As of yet the opinion of the Devs is they have better things to work on that will appeal more, to more.
The Mods are seemingly of the opinion that enough is enough on this, it goes no where and ends up as rowing and ranting.
The community is mixed, some would love it, others don't care, but most are just fed up with the discussion by now.

Would I like them yes, would / do I miss them no.

Yes, because Bethesda went out of their way to insult you, they wanted to give you a virtual slap in the face because your pain and suffering makes them swell up with pride and glee... they are sadists at heart who delight in causing YOU misery, muahahahaha!

...because, damnit, there's nothing repetitive about this!

I still see Skyrim being a fun and enjoyable game.

Sims 3? No, due to literally removing and skimping on content which made the previous two fun and memorable. :shakehead:

Quite difficult actually. They would have to come up with a completely separate animation group, then code in when when to use those animations, as well as coming up with a separate skill for it. I'd rather they more spend time perfecting the new engine and its features than worrying about something as silly as spears. I was upset at first but if ya think about it does it matter THAT much?

Yeah, it's totally a "slap in the face."

Bethesda was like "hey, you know what, a lot of people want spears, so let's intentionally NOT add spears just to make them angry! Haha! Cause that's what we, as a companion selling a product, want to do! Make our fans angry! And hey, spears are for smart people, right? So let's appeal to the stupid demographic--the people who can't understand what a spear is and thus don't want it in the game!"

Give me a break.

Get over it.

Why is it a slap in the face to TES fans?

Arena - no spears

Daggerfall- no spears

Battlespire - no spears

Redguard - no spears

Oblivion - no spears

Skyrim - no spears.

The only Elder Scrolls game that seems to have spears in it is Morrowind, and that's hardly TES series. I also highly doubt spears were all that popular in Morrowind, either. I'm going to believe the people telling me how spears always got the least amount of votes for favorite weapons in Morrowind on these forums.

This.

They are not in so that they can include many other things fans also want. We want everything but nobody can expect everything.

“We can do anything, we just can’t do everything.” —Todd Howard

That said, spears are not in so not really relevant to this section and discussion of it causes problems as you can see. I've already had to delete several posts and most of the others are spammy. Sorry, this topic of discussion is not fairing well in this section at the moment. Feel free to discuss aspects of the game that are in and if you like them or not.

Sorry about the spears. :(

Yeah, I think we have had enough of "No spears in the game" discussions.

I suggest the OP takes time and finds one of the myriad of other topics discussing this.
