Spears

Post » Wed Sep 09, 2009 6:15 am

After I saw the movie "300" I immediately wanted to whip up a Leonidas set-up, Legion shield, legion helmet, elven short sword and, then I remember that they didn't have spears.

I was sad. Then I saw them in New Vegas, and I was confused.

Will they be in skyrim? Along with poleaxes?

In my topic, people seemed pretty interested in the spears idea. Wouldn't be surprised if Bethesda included them.

Spears are one of the two longest used weapons in human history, next to the axe. The first ones were wood and flint, the last ones were used up until the age of gunpowder.

They are fragile, but easy made/repaired, cheap, have great reach, and can be thrown. I would love to have a Nord warrior throwing his spears before rushing in with his longsword.

gotta disagree on you there, what about the blow dart even though you do not always shoot the dart, you can attach a bayonet to it, and they are extraordinarily long.
or do you use for the longest amount of time, then I agree with you there, I do think clubs have gotta be up there though we have been using them since cavemen and are still using them

they probably will include spears, I think they probably redid the system so that you can use a weapon with any animation you want, like Fallout
they also should have throwing knives, I could care less for shurikens

I would love to see spears in Skyrim. One handed, so you could use them with a shield, like in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ygRholyh5g&feature=related

IMO, Spears are one of the coolest weapons in history, and spear-wielding people in fantasies and history have always looked great and fought well. (Romans and Spartans for history, LOTR for fantasy)

Though I can't imagine they would make Nords particulary good at spears, I would want to to make a Nordic Spearman, or perhaps an Imperial Spearman.

I'm all for bringing back spears. I loved using them in Morrowind, and I was disappointed with their absence in Oblivion.

while i personally wouldn't bother with spears (i didn't in morrowind) i would like to see them in skyrim if only for variety and completeness in weapon range

Spears are half my life. The other half is axes, so I would be quite disappointed if Bethesda didn't include spears. It was an excellent weapon in Morrowind, and so many parts of the medieval setting would be complete just by adding spears. I also feel that there should be an Axe skill again, because a battle axe is definitely not a blunt weapon. An unarmored skill would be rather nice as well, but before I get too into it and make a giant wall of text, I'll just say that I approve of spears being added =3

i can see why they put axes in with blunt weapons (an in game book says that they require much the same training) but i agree it was a little wierd. Oblivions combat really limited any usefullness that the unarmoured skill would have given. in morrowind it represented dodging and such but you could actually dodge in oblivion so it might have been largely wasted. but i would liek to see it return in some form.
all in all i think a blend of oblivion and morrowind would likely keep most fans happy. but then some people are never happy.

I want spears back. Specifically the Spear of Bitter Mercy. There's something about that spear...

Wow what a wonderfully useless factoid you just contributed to this thread :tops: Just more people on the internet trying to out-fact each other to show off their E-genitals.

I should hope spears are brought into the game although it would be interesting to see how well they are implemented, with thrusts and such.

Except that axes produce more effective blunt force than cutting force.

Hopefully, I love polearms. Spears, glavies, bardiches, voulges, halberds, poleaxes, pikes, ect.

Plus it'd make more sense. What kind of poor as dirt bandit carries a sword, a nobles weapon? The majority of peasant soldiers in the middle ages used polearms because they were cheap to make and effective, swords take months to craft

I really hope they bring spears back and I hope I can use shields with them, as long as theres a counter to it.
