Anyone else having trouble changing their in game nick thru a profile edit as the devs suggested?

Well, I think I figured out part of why this is happening in my situation and maybe it is a similar problem for you. But I still don't know how to fix it.

Did you happen to try and use your old Crysis 1 gamespy login to try out the DEMO back in March? Secondly, did you use "special" characters in your username like I did? Mine were "equal" signs. Well, something went haywire. All I know is that when I login to gamesas and try an remove those special characters in a profile edit... I get a bunch of error messages and it changes nothing in game. I think these special characters are a problem and may even play a role in why I get so many disconnects.
