Special Halloween Release from Mordigant's Mod Workshop!

Post » Sat Mar 12, 2011 2:32 pm

I'm not going to spoil anything yet, but it should release tomorrow or Tuesday. I will give a hint that it's anime-inspired. PES admin might consider it a "cheat" mod so it probably won't be up very long
when released.

Also, the Ebonheart Orphanage hit 200 downloads this week! There were 116 downloads from the original zip file with the illegal music which I took down, and this week the new zip with legal replacement music met or exceeded 84 downloads. Thank you everybody for your support!

Finally, I want to say that I will no longer be doing triple releases. I will release projects as I finish them. After the release this week, there will probably be two more in 2010, though I'll probably take a one-week break to work on other non-Morrowind projects. Four Elements will probably release around Thanksgiving, then the Museum will probably release around Christmas. I want to give extra attention to Titans, so that project is delayed indefinitely so I can do it well and not rush it. Finally, my Imperial Divinity tapestry resource should release before 2010 is out, though it's not an actual mod so it's relatively unimportant on my schedule.

Oh, and if you come around here for trick or treating, I am wearing a Phantom of the Opera costume and handing out fishy-sticks, with ES Posthumus music on my speaker system.

The mod has no real utility. It is inspired by an anime I was watching this week, those players who have seen that particular anime will catch the reference. I'll give a hint though, a book is involved.

The notebook is done, the Shinigami is almost done, and there's going to be creepy music that plays when the book is picked up.

Advance warning: Never put the book in a container, corpse, or companion inventory or the mod will be irreparably broken.

Will there also be a Light wig so we can properly get into character while using the notebook? A packet of potato chips to hide our miniature TVs in perhaps?

First entry of the book: "Fargoth, decapitation by a flock of Cliffracers"
Ok ok, I'll be satisfied with a heart attack too. I'm curious to see how you implemented the DeathNote.

The mod as I planned it is just about ready for release, I want to do one more round of testing.

Implementation was tricky due to game engine limitations. For example, names do not appear in the book object after you "write" them. If you hold the book, a dialogue topic will appear when you talk to somebody who is one of the ten Bethesda races, so it will not work on COM kids, Dagoth Ur, Creeper, creatures, or custom races, etc. Then you have the option of writing their name in the book, and they simply drop dead. So it is a functional Deathnote, but not quite as cool as the one in the show, since the player can't choose the method of death.

Thanks for the idea of doing a Light wig, don't think it will happen, but I will consider the possibility, if it can be done with little difficulty. If I do a Light wig I'll probably do one for Ryuzaki too since he's my favorite character, I was so sad when he died.

Morrowind players already sort of have the Shinigami eyes as they can see the names of everybody they approach. Also, because the book works through dialogue, it won't work in combat.
