special rare weapons and armor more balanced

Post » Tue Jul 12, 2011 7:16 pm

Ok I recently started a Topic on why people don't like Blunt weapons as much as Blades and a great reason for that was Blades got awesome rare special weapons..The long sword Umbra was the best long sword in my opinion In OB..other swords had better enchantment but I never found one with the amount of damage per strike as much as that sword..Also for claymores there was Shadowrend which was in the SI expansion... It also had the most damage per hit than any other claymore in the game unless I am mistaken There was other swords worth mentioning such as gold brand and others.. Then I go to look at blunt weapons and..there isn't much all I can think of is nerve shatter..but I mean its ok. I hope Skyrim has more special axes maces and warhammers that give you more diversity in what weapon you use. I felt that Umbra and shadowrend were god weapons in OB and I either want there stats lowered in Skyrim ( if they are there) or some special blunt weapons added.

As far as armor goes I also want special armor and no I am not talking about rare daedric peices like in Morrowind. I literally want like a one of a kind armor set like the dragon armor that was awarded to you in OB or the armor from the knights of the nine. I want a couple of those for both heavy and light.

I feel like there was a good amount of special bows in OB I don't think they need to change that.. What do you guys think and please correct me if any of my information is wrong form above.

Here is the thread where we discussed why people liked blades more than blunt http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1209203-why-do-people-not-like-blunt-weapons/

The rarity of weapons info was from OB not morrowind This is a comparison between OB and skyrim not MW and skyrim

i would love for the legendary weapons in the game to be significantly more powerful than just the normal weapons. but not so powerful that they break the games balance. just enough to give you a bit of an edge.
also i would love for them to be found in a few ways. through killing the previous owner through a very difficult fight. completing a hard quest and finding it at the end of a hard dungeon. having one in a regular dungeon and its just easily overlooked because its in an obscure area. and just finding it in the wild somewhere hard to reach.
basically all of my mentioned ways would be very difficult. the fights, the quests finding them. the obscure location would only be accessible with some stipulations like time of day or casting a certain spell or something. and hard to reach areas like at the top of mountains or something.

You didn't think Umbra was to powerful or shadowrend.. I also forgot to mention dawnfang and duskfang...

Sorry to bring morrowind into this, but I liked being able to get random artifacts that you happen to stumble across. I thought oblivion took some fun out of treasure hunting in dungeons. A unique random artifact would be great. I love the idea of having to hunt and explore for an artifact, not "go to cave A and you will find this, bring it to me for a rare artifact." Basically, I would love a treasure hunt feel.

There need to be more rare blunt weapons. The artifact Skull-crusher definitely needs to make a reappearance. Also would like to see the Mace of Aevar Stone-Singer.

Yes that is what I was saying there was so many blades but not many worth saying blunt weapons.. and for the person above I only used umbra and shadowrend

Oblivion artifacts were for the most part tied 100% into quests thus ruining the experience.

Morrowind it was not so and thus glorious.

Can you explain I never played morrowind.. and for the person above...I dont know how to double quote...no apologive needed If finding them in morrowind was better thats great we should implement that in skyrim.. I just dont want people comparing statistics of weapons to the weapons i mentioned unless they were in OB.. i dont want people comparing stats of a sword in MW to OB because they are different games so they arent comparable

Many of the artifacts in morrowind were something that was completely hidden and you could play the game over and over without finding them.

Others you found from vague directions (NO noobed compass) or hearsay Or maybe actually reading a book and going "wait a minute," then actively searching the world....instead of pick up book...journal...active quest...green marker...insta port.

Others you MAY stumble upon during a quest but most of the times they were hidden and you probably wouldn't find them unless you were actively looking everywhere.

Some you would get from a reward on a quest that is extremely hard to find. Like deadric quests WERE not advertized so much like they were in oblivion (and you actually had to find them instead of...oh compass lol).

Seriously in oblivion they hand you epic items.
Because they want the game to sell to as many people as possible and people apparently dont want a hard game.

Oblivion its go to the green marker find item.

I'm wanting there to be a ton of special weapons for each type but really rare and hard to get compared to normal items without special abilities. I'd want them to be available by all of the options you meant, not just one of them like killing a high level enemy. I'd like some to be found from exploration too and things like that.

I'd like it if items actually felt special, instead of everything just being drawn from the same table as spell effects and slapping on some liner slider of damage versus charges.

hmm what do you mean more special do you mean like something that would have spell effects that something else couldn't

If I remember right I'm MW most where in the ruin strongholds. They also had some seriously cool enchanted blades and jewelry on some bandits that would attack you somewhere that was not normally a place you would go to, they really rewarded people for exploring. They also gave you some really cool items that you would have no idea what to do with, like scroll of incarnad flight (fortify acrobatics by 1000 pts) at the very beginning of the game and if you used I you likely died but still awesome.

No kidding...Boethiah's quest for Goldbrand, anyone?

Icarian flight. Google Icarus...trust me, well worth it in context of that scroll. :D

Very simply, bows FTW! Archery has always been my favorite choice of weapon. From the Diablo series to TES, and yes unfortunately, Runescape.

Goldbrand was my favorite shrine quest in OB.. To be honest I thought all of the shrine quests were better than most of the quests in OB because they were so different than the rest. Excluding shivering isles and Whodunit

That's nice and all, but I was referring to Morrowind's Goldbrand quest. Oblivion's was "Oh joy, another trip to another Deadlands clone, let's get this over with already." Might've been more interesting if you didn't have to wait until level 20 so you already had all the high-end armor you could loot from the challenge.

To be fair at least it was up a mountain in the middle of nowhere, unlike Umbra. Best base damage sword in the game, right next to the Imperial City, guarded by a stunted scamp outside, and a rat and a mudcrab inside, held by a boss level loon who couldn't hit you if you stood on a pillar?

What about Volendrung? They got to add that again, but harder to get. In MW you just found it in one of Tel Fyrs chests. Stumbled over it by chance. In OB, just a stupid quest to help some trolls out of slavery.
Yay.

Some love for axes
Swords and daggers there is always masses of
Blunt, bows and in MW spears a lot less but at least there are some
Axes there hasn't been an artifact level axe in any TES game and not many uniques
