Would be nice if a dev could comment on this one. <3

When the system specs are finalized they'll be announced, until then we're not going to hear anything.

If you can't run Crysis (not Crysis 2), don't even try BRINK.

Just kidding.

The game runs on the id4Tech Engine (a modified version of it, to be more accurate), which is -at it's core- the same like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 uses (also modified, afaik).

Yup, the good old iDtech4 Engine, heavily modified.

A 3-4 year old computer should run it fine.

I highly doubt it will run on anything with an integrated graphics adaptor, I would suggest dual core, 4 gig RAM and a shader 3 capable video card

I've heard talk of a special way to put gigabytes of info on screen without using as much as it normally would. I know, that's vague, but I didn't entirely get it. It could've only been a console thing, since it was said when they were discussing console matters. However, it could be that it applies all across the board. I could be horribly informed, and for all I know, in a hysterical Brink fanfreak episode I made it up. But, as I remember, after scouring every little frame of Brink video I could find, it was mentioned.
I've been freaking out about system requirements and recommendations, but I handle Dragon Age 2 on High pretty well, so I think medium will work at least alright.
I hope...

I guess that could be DX11 technology called "Tesselation", which reduces the amount of visible polygones at certain distances.

Which is something consoles can not do because they are limited to DX9; and I think some folks at Crytek or Epic discussed that console developers should release next-gen consoles already which support DX11.

That makes sense. I've been stressing about graphics and such for a while. Computer was top of the line a year or two ago, but I like to worry about that kind of thing. Suppose that's a bonus for console gaming, is not having to obsess about specs.

Yes and no.

PC users don't have to worry as much either, because of the limits consoles set.
And on the other hand developers have reached the limits for consoles and those get more stuttering in games every now and then (Crysis 2 on XBox, for example).

Well, didn't they say something about limiting the number of polygons they ask the GPU to render to only ones visible, instead of having every single polygon in one's FOV sent to the GPU so it can be tasked with computing which ones to display or not, or something like that?

Or was that a completely different game (I doubt it, considering the very limited list of games I'm currently looking forward to - ahem, only Brink and Portal 2 :)) ?

Oh yeah, he could've been talking about that thing - Splash Damage did actually say they came up with some tricky stuff that allows them to do this.

But to be honest, I doubt that's anything different from what Call of Duty games have done (to stay with the same engine) or Crysis 2 did (to name a recent good looking game).

From what developers have said the next console is 3 to 5 years away. So the next console will need to be made for DX12 or even 13 at the rate these consoles are now coming out.

Yeah, I've read something like this about a year ago. The next consoles would come around 2015. Which baffles my mind, because this totally defeats the purpose of developing new technologies (software) in the gaming world.

Didn't they say that each version was modeled separately for each platform?

I was rather generally speaking.

The versions are ultimately developed for each console seperately. That's what they said. That's what almost every developer says.
But they are all modeled before being translated into console-code. ;)

They use the same resources for all three.

The point to say that they are beng developed in parallel is that they want to point out that there is no porting going on.

Porting is when they develop the whole game for one platform, then take that version and adjust the inputs for the other platforms. It usually leads to a sub-par game, even if it's an excellent game on its native platform. Controls are usually not quite intuitive in a port, interfaces are wrong, or game options just don't fit the new platform.

I did some digging and the specs for that talk about a Nvidia 6600GT which is even older than my poor abused card. And that's saying something. I doubt it will be that low, but can anyone else chime in? I would like to preorder but can't till I know if I need a new card. FTR I have a 7950GT.

Hm, I think it should be a 8800GT at least. Given that this card is rarely sold now and you get a better one for ~150 bucks already, upgrading shouldn't hurt too much.
