"The Min specs get you playing. The recommended specs let you play on High, not on Ultra. You'll want beefier rig for that."

For Discussion about your rig and how you can expect it to perform for Skyrim, please send your inquiries into tgl1992's already existing and extremely robust thread http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1246225-official-will-my-pc-run-skyrim-thread-41-w-hardware-guide/

I disagree with the "minimum" foolishness. It's meaningless as currently quoted. The VRAM has nothing to do with Performance ~ ~ only core speed, shader processor count, and memory system bandwidth affect performance.

Only 6 Gb ... Pete Hines wrote about that subject in his twitter:

"Oblivion was, what, 4.something? Did it have more content than these games being mentioned that have 2x or 3x the install?"

Of course he didn`t mention anything about vanilla Oblivion`s bad textures that`s why it is small, how about Skyrim? Why is it small he can`t explain for obvious reasons, after all he can`t just say "We have less content, we used bad textures" etc

Oblivion looked beutifull when it came out, and like Pete Hines, you cant make me believe other wise. I mean, i had never seen anything like Oblivion before, it was amazing. Im sure Skyrim will be too. The HDD space required being low, doesnt mean it will have bad textures or anything like that. It may very well mean that they did a good job building and comprimising.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd, we won't even know till you pop the game in your console (or dl it on steam), so there is no point for all the tears.

I don't see the problem. It means Skyrim has half as many again assets as Oblivion had, and that's no measure of the gameplay or how the world feels anyway.

Just as I thought, my rig can't handle it. My Vram is only 246 MB I think. Oh well, it's an old card that wasn't intended for gaming regardless.

OH well! Xbox 360 FTW!

Do you know what it means?

"For this was I preserved", alternatively, "For what was I forsaken?"

I can somewhat see your point with "Bad Textures", but Less Content? That has nothing to do with the Size of the files. A whole dungeon take way less space than a NPC Recorded Lines. And just by being bigger than Oblivion (As Pete stated) your "size = content" logic says that it probably have more content, not less.

Also, a .BSA file is very well compressed, Oblivion had approximately 5~6,5GB uncompressed (Maybe a little less). If compressed Skyrim has 6GB it will have approximately 7,5-8GB Uncompressed.

It means "Why hast thou forsaken me?". It is what Christ said on the cross to God as He died in his natural tongue.

"Forsaken" is an incorrect rendering. It's use in that passage meant kept back, held off, preserved, not abandoned.

6 gigs: New engine & we’re much better at compression (art/voice/data). It’s huge yet more optimized than we’ve had before. And faster.

Only 6 Gb ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Pong.png. It had two textures: on (white) and off (black). But it was still enjoyable.

(Though it did have multiplayer too. :D )

i bet the game only uses 2. recommended says quad so that the OS and other background processes don't take away from the cores the game is using.

Wanted to note that Pete and I just had a conversation with with Todd. He noticed the feedback that's being shared about only needing 6 GB HDD. Here's the word straight from Todd:

Noticed several comments about the game size. New engine and we’re much better at compression on all things from art to voice to world data. It’s huge yet more optimized than we’ve had before.

He also mentioned that the game runs faster and bakes cookies for you, too :)
