pc specs

About all I remember on that subject is that the PC version was "in good hands."

I also remember talking about hi-res stuff and custom UI.

In the recent podcast, GI asked Todd one of the questions that I posted about hi-res textures, 64-bit version, DX11, etc., and all he would say is basically "we will explore all of that at a later point during the development process"

Well, that's already something...

A different UI should have been a given (the one they showed would be crap on a PC) and Oblivion had higher rez textures on the PC. So other than that it's in good hands and that "we'll look into it," they haven't really said anything beyond vague promises and assurances.

edit: Don't get me wrong, I really hope they do optimize it and such for the PC. I've got a GTX 480 sitting in my rig and I'd like a game that makes use of it.

Can you elaborate on where this was confirmed by the dev team?

No dev team is going to say "Yeah the PC version is pretty resource inefficient", so you can't really trust source on that sort of stuff.

This is the transcript of Todd's answer typed up by Vamphaery

We work on it together. The main thing for people to know is our background is PC games. The game is authored here on PCs. That's what we work on. A lot of the team is playing the game on PC all day. We do want the platforms to each have a really, really high level of fidelity. I personally play a lot on the Xbox. It tends to be my preferred platform. We do a lot of graphics development still FIRST on the Xbox, just because it's smoother. And then a lot of that stuff does go over to the PC. We tend to do as much as we can as the project goes on, because we want to support as wide a range as possible. We also tend to do that stuff late, because right now we want to work on the main game and how it plays and getting the graphics fast everywhere, and then as the project gets closer to release we start supporting all those other things. You'll definitely be able to run the PC on a much higher resolution. All of our games that we've done so far - Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout - the PC versions have higher res textures they ship with by default. A lot of times you don't notice that, because when you play a console game you're sitting six to ten feet away from the screen. Whereas on the PC, you're sitting a foot, two feet away from the screen. Those kinds of differences in texture resolution, you don't notice unless you're looking at two screenshots on a computer and flipping between them. We are gonna support that stuff. I can't say how far. But the same thing with the interface. We do a lot of PC interface stuff. There are uniquenesses [sic] to how we handle it on the PC."

He's saying that the PC versions of Oblivion, Morrowind and Fallout 3 had higher res textures than the console versions, which may be true, but they were still such low resolution that hi-res textures needed to be created by modders in in order to make the game look great at 1920x1080.

By Azura, I hope you're wrong...and the PC version is heavily optimized...(as the devs have stated).

I hope I am as well. However, even if the game doesn't feature all the newer bells and whistles, I think it looks great as-is in the new screenshots.

My guess:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo, around 2.2 GHz
GPU: 8800GTS
RAM: 2GB

Well, pretty much that's it as far as significant parts go. Above those and I might be screwed (Core2Duo 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, 9800GT). My specs is pretty low as it is for modern gaming

Could you wait until the game is 1 month from release?

It's like asking for the max pc specs for the next Stronghold 3. ...it's gona be released next year.

Except you know, the game comes out in 2011

And seeing as how the game is being developed mainly on the 360, we can expect PC specs to not be much higher than Oblivions/Fallouts were.

I am doubtful that Skyrim will be making use of DX10 or DX11.. so there is no need to run out and blow a bunch of cash on a new video card or an extreme rig to play this. I would assume the exact same specs required to play FO:NV or FO3.

Just my 2 cents.
