Speculation on Bethesda's Secrecy

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 9:11 am

I'd rather they release more in-game pictures, and held off on details of gameplay for the most part. If they released one screenshot a week, each with a different theme(such as menus, races, areas etc), up to release then everyone would be happy. For the most part.

I'd rather see visuals, discuss what's seen, what isn't, and just have a steady flow of new thread topics that are relevant to each weeks pic. These larger gaps between news kill me!

We've got plenty more on the game coming. The fan interview and E3 are right around the corner. And we've got about six months until the game hits.

At the same time, we're not going to talk about everything. As with our other games, we want to have some surprises in store for you.

Hmm... I think a big part of that is that the game is still being made, and a lot of things still could change, even if they probably won't. It's just their way of refraining from making empty promises. Also, I think they purposely don't say much so that they don't set the bar too high, so players will be really impressed by new features that they didn't expect, rather than being just satisfied by features they already knew about.

So E3 will bring lots of goodies? Oh, and it's 5 1/2 months from release. Every second counts!

Can we expect a series of short gameplay videos similar to those for FO3 and Oblivion any time soon?

We'll definitely have gameplay to share. How and when it will be delivered... you'll just have to wait and see.

I'll be surprised if we don't see gameplay during E3. We'll be 5 months from release.

I'd like to start a discussion on Bethesda's secrecy. Title haha. Well....I don't understand why they would keep EVERYTHING secret. Only a handful of major things are confirmed, like dual wielding weapons, dragons, release dates, etc. Us fans are stuck waiting for months at a time before a little bit of information is released. Wouldn't it be wiser to release a bit more information? I don't mean "complete spoilers" of everything, like in some other games, but they could release just a tad bit more, right? Even when they talk about something, they're sure to say "it isn't confirmed" or "maybe". It's frustrating. Dragons/release date/duel wielding/12 skills or whatever it was/ amount of races are confirmed. [There's a bit more, but you get my point]

I just want moar! :\

No, it wouldn't.

Not until the game is locked down and is the final version.

They talked about a lot of things for Oblivion that they hoped to include, wanted to include, attempted to include, and wound up not being able to include, for whatever reason. There are still people posting about how the devs lied, and why did they not include everything in the specifically set up for E3 demo in the game, even though it was specifically created for the demo. They unfortunately released a screenshot of an early build that showed a fighter on horseback with a sword drawn, and a lot of people immediately assumed "mounted combat" and complained when it wasn't in the game. There were, and still are, so many complain and moan threads that I'm thrilled that they didn't announce they were working on Skyrim until they did. The devs aren't going to give out the minute details and the justifications for why they did or didn't do or include something. No matter how much information they would give out, it wouldn't be enough, and the "OMG WHY BETHESDA WHY?!?!?!?!?!? WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!!!!??!?!?!?!?" threads would start. Again. You already see all the threads about "game feature poster wanted" is or isn't in the game, sometimes with very little information to back up either conclusion. I'd have been even happier if they hadn't said anything at all until the game went gold.

I believe that Beth is keeping things under wraps until E3 and possibly a little bit of new info in the fan interviews for a couple of reasons.

1. They don't want to ruin the plot.
2. They don't want to inform their competition (If any  ) about what the whole games going to be about.
3. Keeps you anticipated instead of being bored.
4. They may not have everything in stone and they don't want to confirm something that isn't 100% like Horses.
5. They need to show off at E3 so that they can ride some momentum that carries them into the summer at least till Quakecon
6. Todd Howard still can't make up his mind as to where the Fire Breathing Wood Elf is going to be placed in Skyrim.

Do you think we'll see gameplay coming out of E3, or at least sometime in June? Gstaff's "We'll definitely have gameplay to share. How and when it will be delivered... you'll just have to wait and see." quote worries me.

This is very, very true. However, showing a guy on a horse with the sword raised, along with all that stuff from the e3 demo that didn't make it into the final game, was a big mistake. How can you not assume that there's mounted combat, when the picture that they're showing off shows a guy on a horse with a sword ready to attack?

I think they'll have gameplay at E3, heck they might be able to demo it which would be great if they could although that does bring some risks as it would be embarassing if the game crashed or a weird bug showed up in the middle of gameplay, espcially with it being a new engine. I have faith in BGS that Skyrim will have a positive showing at E3 and we'll learn a whole bunch of new info but still enough to keep us wondering like where we're at right now.

While I'd like some more info and pics too, I can understand why they're keeping much if it under wraps. Look up the E3 Oblivion gameplay trailers, it is somewhat depressing how it was so less impressive in the release. Maybe we'll see a bit more of the game's races and other confirmed dynamics after E3 this year.

I really don't get these types of comments...

I just watched the OB E3 vids again, and the only thing substantially cut from the game is the RAI and the minor PC graphics changes. Obviously, the voice acting was put together for the demo and some was cut, but not most.

So....just saying....it was pretty much the same as the game. I was more impressed when I played OB than by those hype vids, actually.

I really can understand there point of view.

Okay one thing , I think people born before 1985 remember this, back in the 90's many people didn't even have internet connection, I only did have internet connection from 1999 on, and only broadband internet from late 2002 (not that long ago) .... How did I get game information obvious not via the internet ....

I did get information by the pc gaming magazine's and the demo I did get in hand on occasion, but than by the time I did get the demo of a game the game was already released ...

I guess times have changed a lot, I also notice in my surroundings that kids nowadays don't have any patience anymore ...

The information Beth released about the new game, including a trailer and the first screenshots, a half year before the releasing of the game is already quit much ...
