speculation on bretons

Post » Sun Jul 03, 2011 7:21 am

Let's be honest, how many of us used Bretons as a race in Oblivion? They were the most unappealing races in my opinion and definitely the most indistinguishable what do you think Beth have to do to revive and help make this race unique? (Lore buffs very welcome)

I played a breton for my main mage in oblivion (can't stand atlmer). I agree though, they just seem like Imperial magic users than their own race.

I have always used Bretons. Their race powers in Ob were awesome.

Yeah okay so they appeal in an ability sense but as an overall aesthetic category they severely lack presence,It seems to me that if they decided to they could get rid of the Bretons in the lore and nothing major would happen :P.

Hopefully they look like http://www.imperial-library.info/sites/default/files/races_ob_breton.gif please...including the hair yes please....I never understood why the races in the pictures and class descriptions had such sixy hair and yet the TES series has never failed in offering very poor and limited hair styles....

Please Jesus get rid of the french accent.

And yes, their look should be totally revamped.

Bretons were easily the most powerful race in game. 50% magic resist geez, two enchaments later and no magical enemy could touch you. I don't see how any didn't play one.

But yes, more unique. Longer elf-esque faces would work.
Maybe a sleight point to their ears.

But, they're magical french people...

And actually, nearly everybody used them as far as I know... They are a pretty popular race.

They had varience in their looks for distinguishable elf like ears though not as long, and soft faces, and at times near slanted eyes, infact just look at the link I provided for Bretons in my first post here, and yes the french...or the garbage excuse of a french accent was not neccesary.

Hmmm I like the concept art, but in game they were like an Imperial with magic :/

I thought that the Bretons in Morrowind had more distinguishing features than the ones in Oblivion.
Based on Oblivion I could see how you couldn't tell them from other races of man.

Champ? Thanks, you're a champion in my heart too. :hugs:

You argue that because bretons look similar to imperials they could be erased from the lore without anything mayor happening.

Although Bretons need too look better, they sure are a unique and interesting race, with an important role in the Lore. Erasing Bretons from the lore would be like turning Dwemer into Dwarves once and for all. :swear:

I usually play Bretons. Even though they were pulled off terribly in terms of aesthetics in Oblivion I just love the lore behind them. I also like playing as a short race that can kick gluteus maximus.

Lose the fat cheeks, do something with the ears, maybe even slightly larger, tone down the overpowered abilities a bit, Have it so that in Skyrim they are the most prominent mages, unlike OB where where they were interchangeable with Imperial mages. Give them some different hairstyles, and please give all the races some unique normal clothes, I assume the Bretons would try to dress a bit more fancily than the Nords. Unique dialogue. Loads of things you can do to make them different.
Of course in OB, it was the capital province, everyone was fitting into the cosmopolitan vibe, hell, even the Skingrad Orcs were trying to be posh. No reason for the races not to show their identities a bit more forcibly this time.

I liked Bretons
I always saw them more as Celts than French
Personality wise they were very different to Imperials
Passionate and eccentric, poetic and flamboyant, intelligent and willful

Not all of them had French accents or names. In MW the female accent was northern English and Edwinna Elbert is hardly a French-sounding name

all the races are getting new looks, so bretons should be unique now. and they make great mages.

Why the French culture does anyone know? I assumed that it had to do with the Breton people of Earth who were found in France
