Speculation: Did Hopeville get anything in return for being

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 6:29 am

I am not fully up to date on the latest info on LR. From what I know, there is to be warheads around the area and one ICBM for sure that Ulysses is in front of in the Screen shot.

So if there are many ICBM as well as a weather control place and labs, that to me would not make sense.

I would be surprised if they weren't all ICBMs. I mean, there's several nukes in the area and just one of them is? That also doesn't make much sense.

Then why were nukes there? D:
As a person who was cyropreserved and used inter dimensional travel or maybe just has the capacity to make crap up I can answer that.

You see when we were fighting those damn Red Commies we realized that we had made a few too many nukes. We needed somewhere to hide them and there happened to be an unused missile base in Hopeville so we just stashed them there. No real grand explaination other than we could. Thank you.

On a nuke-related side note, it was stated that after completing the main quest for Lonesome Road, that part of the Mohave will be changed. Maybe the nukes have something to do with this? Only time will tell.

That makes no sense. They're ICBMs. They're intended to be launched at other countries. Why they weren't? Who knows. If you wanted to have a nuke to blow up the equipment in case of a problem, you wouldn't put it on top of a two stage rocket.
We don't know if it is a two stage missle/rocket, it could be much shorter. Maybe it is also just a ballistic missle for the purpose of shooting down the weather thing. Or again it could be a two stage missle/rocket and the weather control could be a satelite so it would need some power to get up there.

Maybe, just maybe they were given a very durable scopeless Energy Rifle that had good zooming in.

Of course the townspeople would have to share the weapon between them, taking it in turns, passing it on to the neighbour on weekends.

Then again... Seeing as how the gift would have come from the Big Mt... it's unlikely it would be a reliable Energy rifle... :stare:

Durable scopeless energy rifles are myths. Just like the burned man, the Big Empty, and variety in swords.

It may have been another Climate Control test.

In the Sierra Madre, their climate control went awry, creating the poison cloud over the years. I'm pretty sure that the Big Empty researchers and founders of the Sierra Madre wanted to elope. Sierra Madre got vending machines and auto-docs, holograms, while Big Empty researchers got info. What's to say their climate control system, too wasn't a Big MT product?

Same with Hopeville. In the meteorological station, Ulysses went looking for data on Hopeville's weather patterns. You can even test rain on a model of Higgs Village. It all seems to go around weather. There was climate control in DM and I'm sure LR will feature something similar

As others have pointed out, it's good to have rain in the desert, so it probably revolves around rain like all other areas of interest have -- more or less.
___________________________

It makes sense, Hopeville has crazy weather, probably being tornadoes every day, whirlwinds at the slightest movement, something sensitive like that. Ulysses wants to find out more on it, and eventually finds the Big Empty.

I'm starting to get the feeling that LR will be like DM, a death trap. Except, you're able to return to it. :P

They wouldn't launch everything they had, they would hold back some or have ones that refused to the missiles or couldn't.

They would launch everything they had. There would be no reason to hold any back. Some might not get launched because they got kocked out by enemy attack or those with the key refused to, but I am guessing they would have all been launched by computers.

It was all out Mutual Assured Destruction. Everything must go. One chance to strike back at the enemy because you will not get another.

Obviously they didn't launch everything they had, there's still nukes in orbit as well as ICBM's in the ground and regular nukes sitting in their racks. Your not gonna launch everything you have when you have a huge amount of nukes and ICBM's, your gonna keep some just in case.

I agree they could keep 100 or someting total just in case China did something clever. While on the oil rig the Enclave just thought they were useless so they let them sit there assuming the Enclave had the launch codes too.

I am an authority in this area; Nuclear warheads are not ever launched automatically. It takes a human being to push the buttons and turn the keys.

The cloud was not a product of the climate control system. The Big Empty execs had the cloud planted in the climate control system to test out the Hazzy suits and auto docs.

The nukes in orbit is from Van Buren and not Canon. There are some ICBMs as seen in Fallout 3 but it did not work, possibly damanged by enemy attack.

They would launch everything they can in the time they can. Is what I should have said. The Great War leasted two hours and in that time they launched what they could in that time.

I am an authority in this area; Nuclear warheads are not ever launched automatically. It takes a human being to push the buttons and turn the keys.

It takes a key to open the presidents "nuclear foot ball" and a guy to put in the codes into a computer.. after that its all computers. All ICBS are connected to computers. If aliens knew the codes they can send a signal to the computer network and put in the codes. This bypasses the key and human button pusher. If there is a person to push the buttons in the silo I am sure the aliens could lock them out. A fail safe, incase the humans are killed in a surprise first strike, the computers take over and put in the codes to launch.

Computers replaced people because it speeds up the responce time. Humans don't always push the button. Humans can be killed in a first strike and computers are needed to launch the nukes automatically in retaliation.

Missile subs can act independently of the presidents orders because communication isn't always possible. If the codes were for a nuclear sub with ICBMs that can also start WW3.

In the world of Fallout I have a feeling any humans in the silos would have been replaced by robots. Computer run ICBM network with robots to oversee the computers.

Yes but do not forget divergence. Computers may not have yet replaced people in the fallout universe, and nukes may still need 2 people to push the big red button.

Computers replaced people very early on in during the cold war. Robots and computers were replacing humans in every other area of work..Play The Pitt and the Super Duper Mart as well as Mr.Hands and Robot soldiers. Fallout has ZAX super computers and AI. It is pretty damn likely that computers and robots replaced humans in the ICMB silos.

I have to say there is no doubt. Humans were replaced by computer in the Fallout universe.

Yeah, that was intentional, the rifle was their first attempt, but they managed to perfect the weapon and managed to make it smaller. I think it was Sawer who compared it to phones; the rifle being a huge old chunky battery phone, and the pistol being like a smarthpone.

Regardless, both weapons need improvements!

Are you talking about Broken Steel when the Enclave mobile base gets blown up? That did not look like a nuke to me. Or are you talking about when the BoS base was blown up? Wasn't that blown up by a energy space weapon?

The middle satellite complex with the ghoul and talon company guarding it has a computer you can access in the vanilla game that lets you fire nukes from orbit. As well as the BS targets. The idea was taken from Van Buren, one even use's the same name I think.
