R.I.P. Speed and Athletics/Acrobatics. Is there an heir?

It's not and it is replaced.

It's just some people don't accept this alternative, and it seems, they can't even see it

It's really not, since two characters wearing the same armor and carrying the same amount of stuff will always move at the same rate. Always. Even if they sprint the other guy can sprint just as fast. I'm talking about base movement rate, not modifiers.

Todd already gave a reason for why speed and acrobatics are gone, and I think it is a valid reason. There was no challenge to leveling your speed and acrobatics, though the same could be said about most other skills. It didn't matter where you were, you could just run, swim, or jump and mindlessly level these two skills. Now am I saying they should have removed them instead of replacing the old system with new ones that actually made you take time to level the skills, no, but I'm not supporting them wasting dev time on a much un-needed skill set.

One with more fatigue can sprint farther able to catching up to the one who has less... and that if we assume that there are no sprint perks, that change the speed of your sprinting.

I would even argue, that unless you raised your speed deliberately, it still mattered more on your armor...

Depends on what putting a point in stamina does. If for instance the stamina bar recharges after being emptied in one real world minute no matter how much stamina a person has...that could mean the more stamina you have the faster it would recharge because no matter how much you have it will always take that minute to fill up. Like if you have 30 stamina points it'll take a minute to recharge, but later when you have 60 stamina points - it'll only take 30 seconds to get 30 stamina back. If regain rate is handled as so, then putting a point into stamina would allow you to run for longer periods of time and get back on your feet faster. And if the speed incline grows the longer one sprints - meaning the longer you sprint the faster your pace becomes - then the more stamina you have the longer you could hold the sprint button down meaning you could sprint faster and faster as you run.

Different races would start with different amount of stamina - meaning different starting speeds. I think that covers pretty much everything...

Anyway, I think its possible with just the stamina bar, but it is yet to be seen if that is how Beth handles things.

Where would sprint speed be increased? What skill would it make sense to be under?

Listen, sprinting longer ≠ moving faster. It certainly does not mean sprinting faster. I think a much better solution would be this:

Race has a minor modifier to base speed. A Bosmer will move faster than a Dunmer will move faster than a Nord. Now on top of that you have Stamina increase your base speed as well as your encumbrance. Then we factor in armor. Armor will not be a straight modifier, either. Heavier armor causes diminishing returns on Stamina at a mildly exponential rate, such that if you're wearing Daedric armor you will be much slower than if you were wearing Steel armor, even if the Daedric weighs less than twice as much as the Steel. Lighter armors will help you to move dramatically faster than a heavily-armored juggernaut, and if you're playing a sneaky character whose only armor is the shadows he hides in, then you'll be rewarded with some lightning-fast movement speed. And there we go. Equipment still plays an important role but you are directly rewarded for choosing Stamina over Health or Magicka. Simple, effective character variety that is perfectly in line with the philosophy of the new character system. High-level perks can decrease the armor penalty while still not letting you move as fast as an unarmored character. Everyone's happy. Well, I am at least, and that's what really matters.

Hmm... I think I might be on to something here. Maybe there's some modding in my future.

It's called modding.

Or maybe if we [censored] loud enough they'll realize how stupid it is and add it back into the game, so the poor, unwashed console peasants can enjoy the fruits of the glorious PC master race :teehee:

I want fruits!

Man every thread is just another person [Expletive Deleted]!!!
Every little change is an attempt by the developers to cut corner to confine player options. If you got such a problem with it MAKE YOUR OWN [EXPLETIVE DELETED] GAME!

I for one can't wait for this game to come out and see every that everything is being altered to create a better game in whole.

So every one runs at the same speed, unless a character's race effects it so what?

There is a confirmed dragon shout that allows you to slow down time and one that allows you to super dash along with the ability to sprint.
Not to mention the fact that you can find/create spells/potions/enchanted items to increase speed!
That's not even counting the possibility of a perk that could increase speed.

Quit gripping and play the game!

As a cook I know well enough how to properly cook a steak and still have it returned to me despite it being cooked as per order, only because the customer doesn't know how to cook a steak. "It's pink in the middle." "You ordered rare." "It's not pink in the middle." "You ordered well done."

Despite the widely believed phrase the customer IS NOT always right.

Just because the game doesn't live up to your (in general) exact specifications does not make it a bad product.

The op was a bit harsh but like a steak if you gave every one the same one some would love it others wouldnt .
But unlike said steak .You havent bought it if you know its burned why buy it .Not so sure you could take the game back and say fix it to my liking after you buy it either like you can with a steak .

Way to miss the [censored] point entirely. Seriously.

"I'd like to see you do better" is not a valid rebuttal to a criticism. You don't have to be able to do better yourself to recognize that something svcks. I don't have the millions upon millions of dollars to make my own movie about giant robots, but I can sure as hell say that Transformers 2 svcked. And even if I didn't know how to cook a steak (I do) I could sure as hell recognize that a steak that is black outside and has the texture of shoe leather is not a good steak.

Oh, by the way, if it's rare it should be red in the middle, not pink.

Speed, Athletics, and Acrobatics still remain in the game. They're just hidden. Stop freaking out, OP.

I honestly can't remember any actual need or advantage of jumping in Oblivion.

You could make a Machinima style movie using a mech game.

Actually in Morrowind you could gain the upper ground easily by jumping on to roof tops. It made traveling on foot easier too because once high enough I bounded over single floor houses. Then again I could have casted a levitation spell too.
