Speed Trees displayed messy due to rotation

Post » Mon Mar 01, 2010 5:57 am

I created a swamp area with the Region Editor. Unfortunately some of the trees there got crazy Z-Rotation. (-2489344 .... something)

These trees are displayed strangely ingame, the leaves are only visible from certain directions and are somewhat slopy.

I know you cant rotate speed trees so how to fix that ? Someone has an Idea ?
I did NOT set Rotation Variance to the trees, I copied the Region Object List from an alread existing region, then I added some objects and changed Density.

Not sure why it happened if you copied settings from an existing region, but you can't rotate Speedtrees. Well, you can, but then you get the effect you currently see. Depending on the rotation it's more or less noticeable (like with z axis rotated by 1 degree you probably won't notice, but if it's rotated by 50 degree it will clearly look weird).

Maybe somehow the settings got changed, you have to make sure that Speedtree entries don't have any rotation settings activated. XYZ rotation has to be 0 for them. The region editor is a big, fat bug and I can very well imagine that it changes things without you doing anything.

EDIT: Misread your post, I thought you wrote 'I know you can rotate Speedtrees'. Sorry. I think the only way to fix the issue is to check the region editor settings and generate the region again.

Thanks for your reply, I checked the Settings but everything was set to 0.
I generated again with the same result, then I generated one more time with the Cells unloaded and .. it worked ! :D
Well one tree is still strange but thats no big deal to fix.

So without solving the problem the problem is solved, kind of.

Have a nice weekend
