spell breaker is still the best item in game

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 8:27 am

(possible spoilers i suppose)
i remember when i got spell breaker in oblivion, i looked at it's enchantments and was like WOAH! i just found the best thing ever. and i truly did. i used it the rest of my time in oblivion all the way to level 50-60ish (can't remember my final level) it always served its purpose. as a melee fighter spell casters can always be a problem because they have range over me and i have to close in.

in skyrim i feel like its even better! it doesn't offer anything crazy in terms of melee defense but the ward that it auto sets up is amazing! dragons breath is worthless and mages are sissies. spells can't touch me! i've level 40 and its completely awesome again. no other daedric artifact has been as useful yet. definitely a must have for any adventurer.

Agree 100%
I found it is especially useful when fighting dragons

It's good alright, but i don't like the design. It looks like a solar panel, with the shield being curved against the enemy. That is hardly very effective as a shield.
It's great, but I wish it looked more like the Oblivion one.

Dawnbreaker + Spellbreaker. Almost essential for a Paladin to FEEL like a paladin.

the design is a little off, but it is meant to act as a ward so i see the implementation. i especially love when the ward reaches its capacity for damage and sparks and staggers a little, but does the ward ever actually stop? i've rarely noticed taking damage (except for the boss from meridia's quest, his ice spell is a doosey) if it does stop how long till it comes back on?

i got the shield but ive never really used it, i find the shield of ysgramor more useful combined with the bock perk that lets you negate elemental damage as it protects you from magic even if its not a direct hit on your shield, but after seeing multiple threads about the awesomeness of spellbreaker im starting to doubt myself haha...

i don't remember the exact perks on the shield of Ysgrammor but i remember i wasn't impressed. its in my house in a chest lol. you can't be disappointed with the spell breaker. like i said, blood dragon the other day full on frost breath attack and didn't feel even a snow flake from it.

it has 20% magic resistance + some health bonus, but the magic resistance is the main thing and its also pretty big so its better against archers, and if u have a shield you can always bash a dragon to stop its breath or if its flying just hide behind something. I play on adept and the only time ive had problems with dragon breath destroying me is with my 2handed warrior and frost dragons, cus i didnt have any gear with resistances. Also i cant see the spellbreaker working against fireballs and other aoe spells as the ward protects only against direct hits. Sometimes i can see how having it will save me alot of trouble, but having to haul it just for the rare occasion is more troublesome for me than to pop some resist potions and/or have enchanted gear xD i can see it work only with pure mages who dont want to waste magicka on wards xD

I dropped that shield the minute I got back to Breezehome...it's ugly and I'd already had a shield that was better.

The first thing that happened after I got back to town after getting spellbreaker, was a mage challenged me to a duel. It went well for me. :)

Yeah it a good shield but like all in game items though it loses out when you can do duel enchants IMO.

i prefer ysgamor because it gives me the resist bonus so i mitigate damage even when i am not facing the magic user head on. If i am facing the magic user/dragon head on i dont need a ward because i am just going to bash its face in whenever it is about to use magic. Spellbreaker is cool though.

It's amazing. Mages used to give me trouble, but not any more. Currently at level 35ish with my swordboarder and with the Block perk for reduced elemental damage, I haven't been hurt by a spell since I got it. That includes AOE. Casters use their entire mana bar on me while I slowly stride towards them, shield raised, before a quick bash 'n' slash shuts 'em down for good.
As a single item I think it looks great. Almost like a satellite dish, which is nicely appropriate considering its function.
Looks rubbish with all my Daedric or Ebony gear, but it's just too useful for me to not have it equipped as standard
Oh, and at Exquisite it has the same armour rating as a Legendary Ebony shield.
So pretty much there's nothing serious at all wrong with this most awesomely useful of artifacts.

I'm guessing Spellbreaker is heavy armor since everyone is comparing it to the shield of ysgramor?

Just wondering if its worth getting for my light armored character

It is heavy but I'm pretty sure that all armour stacking perks don't count shields, and its armour rating is based off the block tree, not the heavy armour tree.
So yes, it would be useful.
Can anyone confirm this?

i didn't find it that hard honestly. the enemies were a bit tougher than normal but i was able to kill most of them with stealth. i'm also a heavy armor wearer build w/ dual wield (quick kills). not sure if that helps

it has 20% magic resistance + some health bonus, but the magic resistance is the main thing and its also pretty big so its better against archers, and if u have a shield you can always bash a dragon to stop its breath or if its flying just hide behind something. i can't say i've been hit with an AOE spell yet but i'm sure i have and i haven;t had a spell explode in my face. i think if it hits my shield it negates the AOE effect. at least im pretty sure, i'll have to do some reasearch

I dropped that shield the minute I got back to Breezehome...it's ugly and I'd already had a shield that was better.
