Spell charging

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:37 pm

in the latest Trailer we get to see for about a second the PC casting a spell, and it looks like he was charging it. Or maybe it was just an animation.
Anyway, would you like to be able to charge you're spells, thus increasing it's efficiency, or do you want a set damage / magnitude. why / why not
personally i vote yes, if you could focus all yore Magicka in a single spell it would create a feeling of epicness and power, and watching a fireball growing in size and intesity would lower the morale of the foe, creating a chance that he will flee. watcha think?

My dbz heart would be so full of joy...I just can't put it into words. Yes simply doesn't do, but that's all really I can say about it. Yes, over 9000 times yes.

I might have been the animation for that spell but it would be cool if the longer you spent on your spell the more damage you do and the larger the effects of said spell.

Yes but only if I hold the button. I still want to be able to toss rapid-fire fireballs at enemies. But maybe charge up and send a :flamethrower: at 'em!

Yes, I like the idea.
Sometimes I would probably prefer to cast relatively weak , but rapid frost balls (probably to cool mine and and drinks of all the people in the pub :P), but sometimes I would like to charge up a blizzard that will freeze the very heavens. :D
Also, since you can equip only two spells at the time, this could be useful so you don't have to change from spell to spell.

lol, I completely agree with you, I think now I will make a character with a chargeable fireball in the left hand and no weapon in my right hand so I can punch with it.

Eh, not really. I think all the different ways we have to employ spells now are all we really need. And I definitely prefer flamethrower spells to charged spells. :P

I'm going to say no. Every game I have played with spell charging has made the first strike overly potent due to this. You charge up for the super attack to initiate every fight, I think it wrecks game play overall.

Voted no. For curiosities sake, is there anyone over the age 15 that voted yes? And under 15 that voted no?

The point of that statement was made in the statement itself: for curiosity's sake.
Media such as games tend have a target demographic, it's often nice to know what demographics appreciate what features. It would be foolish if they made a game rated "M" (ratings don't mean squat to me, but they clearly show target demos) and added stuff that appealed to the "T" crowd but revolted the older crowds. And vice versa. In my experience, kids like this sort of thing (or maybe it's just that generation) and I wanted more data. If you are 50 and you want this, I won't think less of you, but I may change what I think about what people want.

It would have to be better than Fable 2 and 3's charging. Simply casting a spell casts the weakest form and charging the spell up takes way to much time and isnt at all practical.

Is it just me or has this not been confirmed already to be in? Will try to dig around for a link if I find it :P

Edit: Guess all they ever said was you could hold down the button for different effects, which I guess in some cases can include "powering up". Time will tell.

Thats was done in moded oblivion, thats will be part of new magic system I believe, charging for change magnitude duration and range of spells and have magicka cost increase or draining.
I really want to see at this new mechanic in CS.

I would like it ingame, But if you charge up the spell to much it should explode in your face.
