No Spell-Making confirmed

Post » Sat Aug 13, 2011 8:44 am

Looks like my "send a tweet every day to pete" strategy finally worked , because he replied today , and not many will like what he had to say .....
It has been confirmed today that Skyrim will NOT feature spell-making by Bethesda's VP of PR Pete Hines via a tweet .

This is what Pete Hines , VP of PR had to say when I asked if Spell-Making was making a return to Skyrim .

There isn't spell making. I thought we'd said that, or someone else had in a preview.

I'm not surprised. Most of us had been going with the assumption that spellmaking didn't exist for a while.

I think its odd, however, that Todd didn't realize that spellmaking was never mentioned. They literally never mentioned it except to say they weren't sure.

On the plus side, the entire magic system is now awesome. Customising spells has been made redundant. Now you just use the spell as long as you want rather than choosing a set time. :D

Spell making in-game is NOT required and I'm glad they removed it.

Thats what the Creation Kit is for (game editing tool).

Jeez....

Why are you glad they removed it?

Some people on consoles actually LIKED creating spells

Yeah this is a huge set back on TES , I still can't believe it .
And the fact that they even forgot that they hadn't mentioned it before "thought we'd said that, or someone else had in a preview.", makes me think that they didn't give a [censored] about it in the first place .

I couldn't care less.

This will make each individual spell you can acquire much more unique and also take out from the overpoweredness of mages.
I was playing a mage today on oblivion and created a Weaknes to frost/fire/thunder 100% + frost/fire/thunder damage 60pts. it costs 100~110 mgicka to cast and it obliterates almost anything on 1 hit.
With some magicka potions I obliterated everyone on the Imperial city on 1 hit.

Oh and I should mention it was a level 75 destruction spell, so I didn't need master level to cast it.

Why am I glad it was removed? Because you dont need spell making in the game just to add a little more damage for a slightly higher mana cost to a spell when you can do so much more with the game editor.

Theirs a lot of things you cant do on the console that you can do on the PC and thats just how it is.

Pros and Cons m8...

Oh well, was never a magic user in Oblivion and the one time I tried to make my own spells, I failed hard. This news doesn't really effect me.

You know, this is hilarious, because previously I never really cared about making spells... honestly, but I was actually looking forward to making spells in Skyrim. Oh well... on the plus side, this can probably be modded in, yes?

Spell making allowed you to become too powerful, so I'm glad this has gone.

Please, if you dont know how spellmaking worked and what it could actually do you should refrain from commenting.
Spellmaking was a lot more varied and diverse than how you make it out to be.

There is also no such thing as 'too powerful'. This is not an FPS.

Skyrim has taken the magic out of magic.
This is terrible.

Instead of spell-making you get spell combining....

85 spells and 3 uses for almost each spell?

Who the hell needs spell making when you will be busy with each spell remembering the combinations not to mention the Shout type spells?

People these days, so greedy...
