No Spell-Making confirmed . #3

Post » Tue Aug 16, 2011 5:15 am

Looks like my "send a tweet every day to pete" strategy finally worked , because he replied today , and not many will like what he had to say .....
It has been confirmed today that Skyrim will NOT feature spell-making by Bethesda's VP of PR Pete Hines via a tweet .

This is what Pete Hines , VP of PR had to say when I asked if Spell-Making was making a return to Skyrim .

There isn't spell making. I thought we'd said that, or someone else had in a preview.

BTW you're welcome ....

I do agree that this svcks, big time. But its not the only thing that the games before it were about, so I'll still buy it. As I've said before, unless Skyrim becomes a linear futuristic shooter, which it won't, I'll still play it.

Was it really necessary to duplicate this thread just for the sake of adding a poll?

I think they discarded spell making in Skyrim was because, well, all the spells in Skyrim are unique. It would be so difficult to incorporate spell making in a game where spells have been upgraded so much compared to it's predecessor. In Oblivion it was easy due to the face that every spell of the same category looked the same. I mean you could created 5000 fire touch spells of different effects, but they would all look the same. Or 5000 lighting target spells, or a frenzy spell. In Skyrim, you have a fire spell that explodes, a fire spell that spreads fire like a flamethrower, etc. I think it would be too much of a fuss for Bethesda to program this in Skyrim. And I'm fine with it. I played Oblivion on Xbox, and I wasn't a fan of the spell making, just because each spell didn't feel original and unique, since it was the same bland animation, over and over. But im sure hardcoe PC gamers could make some sort of a mod to create spells. I hope this makes sense to you guys, it does to me.

One of the defining, more important aspects of our species is our ability to properly anolyze situations and make inferences based on them. Given spellcrafting's 17 year-long status as part of the series and given that people are indeed making a third thread and loudly proclaiming their dissatisfaction, what do you think? Of course it's a big deal.

Ok mate I hope you enjoy TES VI, where there are no skills, in-game items you can buy over the internet, no durability on weapons/armor, and dragon shouts have evolved into the "easy button."

Oh well. Doesn't affect my play-style the least :D.

Thank you Bethesda for catering this game to people who give two [censored] about the randomness that comes with spell making and is more into the uniqueness of all available spells. :)

A good decision imo. Spellmaking and pure mages in general in OB, im living proof of that being on the 360 and making multiple 1 shot spells, not to mention 100% chameleon spells. It was a joke
I think the new system will work out great.

Also, its been confirmed we can combined different spell schools. Duel wield a lightning spell in one hand and a shield spell in another, combined them to create a lightning shield that does damage to enemies when they hit you.
That = amazing.

Don't we already have a third thread?

Fine, here's the abridged version of the things need to be said.

It's gone, it svcks, but this decision has is advantages.
No it wasn't removed because of overpoweredness, casuals or lack of time.

No offense, but do you really believe that we buy the whole "im not buying the game herp" thing?
If youre not buying the game, dont post. Otherwise, yeah, youre buying it. Which you are. Or else you wouldnt be here telling us you arent buying the game, because thats quite pathetic.

I'm afraid health regen is in, I saw some footage from the quakecon demo on youtube and health does indeed come back on it's own. I would post a link but I think it's against the rules.

Or maybe you (meaning everyone who is against it's removal) are just blowing things out of proportion. How much did it really contribute to the game?
I'm not happy to see it go, I used it a lot, but I don't see the need to make three threadcomplaining about it. You (meaning everyone who is against it's removal) can't make Bethesda change it, it's unfortunate but true.

It doesn't mean one should just never say anything and just nod and smile, instead. Eventually, they should at least be aware of the disdain and get the chance to consider them with future products. If discussing something shouldn't happen just because the developers aren't guaranteed to agree, then why even have a video game forum?
