[BETA] Spellbook Menu

Spellbook Menu
Version: 0.2

DESCRIPTION
Spellbook Menu is a mod that offers an organized spellbook to the player. The spellbook is a messagebox, see http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii91/qazaaq/qazSpellbook01.jpg. Spells are separated by school and there's a custom list that can store any combination of spells. Unlike the screenshot, the magicka cost of spells is shown behind the name.

It's based on http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?s=&showtopic=994157&view=findpost&p=14387984. I'm posting this here because I'm looking for feedback and idea's. So suggest away.

SCREENSHOTS
note: these screenshots are from version 0.1

Note: requires OBSE v17 beta 2, http://obse.silverlock.org/.

POSSIBLE ADDITIONAL FEATURES
  • Hotkey navigation of the menu. Need some ideas about which keys to use.
  • Spell should be sorted by... use, name, cost?
  • Not listing empty slots and empty pages.

Nice. I hate trying to find a spell in the vanilla menus.

Does this remove the spell book from the standard inventory? Or is this "in addition to"? Can you delete spells from the spell book?

It's an addition, activated with a separate hotkey (configurable and asked for when first launched).

You can't delete spells (yet), but if you delete spells from the regular spellbook they will be deleted from this spellbook as well. You can add and delete spells from the custom list.

Looks great, especially at later levels when it's almost impossible to find that one spell you're looking for.

Little bug report: When I go to set a hotkey, it always tells me I pressed k. I didn't press k :(
Works absolutely fine apart from that, however :P

Thanks for the suggestions.

Updated to version 0.2, here's the changelog:

Version 0.2 (30.05.2009)
- ADDED the magicka cost of spells behind the name.
- ADDED automatic update functionality, new spells are added to the spellbook automatically if the number of spells has changed since the last time the spellbook was opened.
- FIXED hotkey configuration, which incorrectly reported that "K" had been chosen as the key to open the spellbook.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=24724 of course.

Started using this as my character (that was not supposed to be a wizkid) gotten a gazillion spells to handle.

I wouldn't mind seeing the effects too.

Keys for hotkeying different spell categories - well, I think you should just make it user choosable.

Different sorting at a punch of a button, or menu button - good too.

Option for showing more spells at a time.

Cheers!

Hmm...I may try this at one point. I'll bookmark the TESnexus page for later.

BTW, I assume when that menu is open the game is actually paused right? Reminds me of Daggerfall...

It behaves just like any other messagebox behaves, so yes, the game is paused.
