No Spellmaking = Awesome

That's actually pretty cool mate. I'll give you this one.

I still don't think it's quite enough to justify keeping the old system. What I do think is that the old spell creation kit could just stay in somewhere, off to one side, so that you can do things like this if you want to.

That's fair enough for me, and it's all you guys are really asking for anyway.

Pretty much, totally optional. If you dont like it, or dont want to get to like it, so be it, but its there for the people that have loved it since Arena.

Although Auras are not the main reason we want spell creation, its not even a well known trick.

Because you lack imagination.

I'm sorry, but you need to give that [censored] a rest. It's false, for one thing, and for another, you're basically stacking different colored Legos together in a straight pillar and proclaiming yourself an architectural genius.

How long do they last?

As long as you want them to. A couple seconds to add flare to a destruction spell, or run around as the flaming Monk if you want.

I never did it with spells (Xarnac can better talk about that) but if you want long lasting effects, enchant some items for that effect.

I made a pair of pants that had a weak disintigrate weapon effect on self. It only damaged it moderately, but it caused it to be on fire. Rather comical.

Disintegrate weapon on self is a good way to get a flaming sword.

Duration depends on how long you fortify your magicka, the magnitude only has to be at 1 though.

Its fun to play a berserker wearning nothing but unprotective pants chasing people with a flaming axe.

And most importantly duration for disintigrate weapon doesn't act on a duration. If you have the magnitude of 1, and 100 duration, it does 1 damage.

I had a half naked Argonian witchdoctor that would chase Dunmer around with a flaming Grummite dagger.

I miss the freedom of enchanting you had in Morrowind...
I'd like to put my disintigrate weapon effect on my weapon, where it makes sense...

It was also fun to make spells of bound armor, fire damage, restore health.

Imo, OP is a prime example of Bethesda fanboyism gone too far. Obviously all of us here love Bethesda's games, but that doesn't mean we have to stop being rational people. This is reminiscent of the Bioware forum on how wonderful it is that DA2 takes place entirely in one city.

So when people then give examples of creativity you still have to debase them.
How nice.
My mum used to have a saying for an attitude like this.
"With you, its never good or theres something amiss'

Why cant you just accept the fact that people like spellmaking because it allows them to get creative?
There is absolutely no need to pretend that each and every person with a slightly differing opinion is just silly and best ignored.
Its a debating tactic that may have its place in politics but on a forum like this it just makes you look, well, like you..

Maybe its time for a realisation that people are allowed a differing opinion and that there is no need whatsoever for your agressive tactics.

Your attack is baseless, the "creativity" mentioned is not considered really "creative" to some. You could say sticking a straw in a potato is creative, it's still just a straw in a potato, nothing special. (and saying "you just don't have imagination" doesn't change what it is either)

I am not the one attacking here.
I am calling out senseless assaults on peoples opinions based on nothing but (what I perceive as) the desire to be right at all times.
Do not turn this around, the 180 is another political debating tactic I am not fond of.

People have given ample example of what spellmaking allowed. If other people then want to go and dismiss that plethora of information based on nothing more than a need to come out on top then there is no discussion possible.
