Hey everyone, I'm not really on the Elder Scrolls Forums very much, so if something like this has been posted I apologize.
I read somewhere that Spellmaking will not be available in Skyrim. What do you guys think about this? I really liked Spellmaking in Oblivion, so personally I think it should be in Skyrim. Also can anyone confirm if Spellmaking is in the game or not?
Nt confirmed in or out, but Based on Beth being tight lipped about past features that were speculated out and needing to be backed into a wall (armor pieces, Attributes, etc etc) its unlikely that its in.
which is a pity I love making spells, I do it to an extent in New vegas, ever fired a Mass effect Radiation Pistol?
spell making would be a nice addition for sure but its one of those things that's not worth putting resources towards. two worlds 2 has spell making but that's because if it didn't than the game would fail. Skyrim wont be like that.
Spellmaking is the epitome of dabbling in the arcane arts... but if there is a spell combination aspect like in Fable 3... what does that mean for duration and potency and area of effect and whom you cast a spell on?
I hope there is Spellmaking to an extent. What I mean is I don't want it to be like Oblivion where I could Fortify Acrobatics and jump over walls and stuff.
I voted No. In oblivion I could create a bunch of really weak charm spells that would require very little skill, money and magicka. I could cast all of them on an NPC instead of using a charm spell that's probably for higher levels. You can also make reallly overpowered skills like 100% chameleon which allows you to do anything you want without being detected.
I'm a fan of the idea of making new spells, but not as it has been traditionally implemented. As Skyrim stands (with its present "magic system"), I don't think that "new" spells should be made in the game. At the same time, I voted that "spellmaking" should be included in the game. This is because with my taste for games, I think that Bethesda should have redesigned magic in a way that is more interactive. The only reason I think players should be allowed to produce new spells in the game if spells were made more interactive in a certain way that I will not discuss is because the potential for new spells should be great enough to require players to derive new effects through very complicated (and perhaps modular) means in order to do what they want. But obviously this will not be included in the game. In this case, I think that "spellmaking" in its comparatively hobbled and uninteresting form from Oblivion and Morrowind should not be included.

Your problem not mine, and completely foolish basis to remove spellmaking, no insult directed to you however.
I would be throughly disapointed if I couldn't create custom spells. If that were the case, I may stop playing as my favorite races: Breton/Altmer and switch to a strong fighter race: Redguard/Orc
Yes it should be in the game, it is a fundamental game mechanic for mages and if warriors and archers can smith weapons and arrows (not confirmed on the arrows) then mages should be able to create spells, with the correct balancing of course
i could see it being revised, but taken out all together, i doubt. the vanilla spells in OB were never enough for me, the Mage classes would feel kinda empty i liked being able to mix different effects for fun spells. b/c really who cares if it CAN be overpowered, you dont have to make overpowered spells if you want the challenge.
And i hope for the LOVE OF GOD they dont use the perks from the Magic skills as the spells. i would be reminded of dragon age and cry on the inside.
I loved spell making, so i'm all for it. Hopefully some nice modder will find a work around. :icecream:
You don't need a modder to do it for you. You could simply add whatever spell you wish in the construction set. It's an incredibly simple modification. I believe in you!

Quick Question for you. What if we are on Xbox 360?
