Spells, more in depth summoning and Necromancy

Post » Thu Dec 02, 2010 10:30 am

Just wanted to have a topic about magic in Skyrim.. does anyone know how many Spells there will be? I wonder what the summon spells will be like if you can charge them up like the destruction spells..

I would like to be able to summon more POWERFUL things the longer it is channeled, with the possible abilty to raise corpses to fight beside you, like the King of Worm's staff in Oblivion.

Moar spellz plz.

I'm pretty concerned about "the state of magic" currently. I've got a feeling mages are going to be reduced to "elementalists", who do nothing but fling fire and ice.

If you got two hands, you should be able to summon two.

But, they haven't given us any word on magic that's not destruction. <_< [censored] destruction!

You shouldn't be able to summon anything with necromancy, it's not that type of magic.

So far it's around 85 spells in the game. Also I wouldn't expect Necromancy to be big in Skyrim due to the Cold climate although it's certainly possibly that they may appear.

I think spell effects would be more accurate here

I don't really understand what a cold climate has to do with Necromancy. >_>

The cold climate makes it easier to preserve bodies

But if a frozen body suddenly reanimates, the movement will snapp its limbs off as it tries to move them.

But seriously speaking, i would love for some Necromancy spells to be in the game. Preferably in the form of curses and dots(damage over time spells), also reanimate recently deceased corpses.

Another cool thing would be if you were able to collect bodyparts etc to assemble a ghoul who could become a more permanent, yet disposable ally.

I agree.

But maybe a Necromancy spell that you cast on a corpse, animating it for a short time could be possible.

This! Hopefully they will show us some more stuff on spells and spell types other than destruction magic as we get closer to the release.

Well in the other ES games the soultrap, and summon skeleton, zombie, etc are actually Necromancy spells..purple seems to be the spell color FOR necromancy (green illusion, White Alteration, Red Destruction, etc.) due to the purple eyes of people reanimated with The King of Worm's staff, and the purple (violet?) light that hits that alter to make black soul gems in Oblivion.

Yes charging should be able to summon multiple minions.. there should also be a reanimation spell.. maybe if you cast summon skeleton on a corpse, instead of summoning one, it raises the bones of a fallen corpse nearby, making it a permenant ally? I know you will be able to have hired help in the game from what I read.. a permenant Skeleton or Daedric (like a Scamp) minion would be nice for spellcasters.

Perhaps hey could have a conjuring spell for Daedra where the longer you charge it, the bigger the gate/the stronger the daedra that comes through.. EITHER way conjured minions need to be more useful.. I never really used them in Oblivion just because they tend to be weak and wear off too quickly!

Well in ES lore, it seems that Necromancy tends to be a use of illegal spells at times more than it's own school, but ya something making it seperate from conjuring would be nice.. perhaps reanimate a fallen enemy.. the longer you charge, the longer it stays animated, and the stronger the force animating it?

no its SPELLS not spell effects.

They stated 85 -spells- in the first GI mag that released informaiton, over 5 schools (mysticism is gone)

Flame thrower, Fire Trap, and charged area fireball are all spell effects, but thats 3 types of spell effects taking up space in the school of destruction not accounting for frost and shock.

however SPELLS and the fact that apparently spells are context sensitive, that frees up things.

and if these were spell effects, Spell making would not be an issue, but apperantly it is despite Enchanting being in AND made a skill. so who knows.

Don't forget Solstheim in the Bloodmoon expansion for Morrowind. The Nords had their own form of Necromancy.

Mostly, TES has had summoning/conjuring of the undead as its form of necromancy for the player. Reanimating a dead body is the exception to the rule for TES although I see it as the norm for necromancy. Also, when a necromancer casts a spell in the game, they summon undead out of Oblivion somewhere, but their lairs always have corpses and body parts laying around. Strange, that is. Perhaps they are also frustrated by their inability to reanimate corpses like normal necromancers? ;^)

FOR THE NECROMANCY! :mohawk:

They should have the spell Relmyna Verenim had in The Shivering Isles.

She could bring people back to life, permanently. I want that.

I like the idea of a minion you could summon or create. I might see about making one with the CS. Would be fun to have a silly little goblin following around and carrying your stuff for you as you blow [censored] up with magic.
