I agree, OB spell making was fun and I was hoping after I joined the collage, we'd get to make spells and stuff but.....yea xD
Hopefully, TES6 brings it back!

It annoyed the heck out of me too that they put Paralysis into the Alteration school. They didn't even bother to get rid of the book that specifically says that paralysis is an illusion magic. that's what really bothered me. having an in game book say it should be illusion, but having to level up alteration to use it.
We lost spellmaking, true, but they added enough USEFUL spells in the game that I for once don't even need spellmaking... Like seriously. Got a healing spell that heals 165 points on self in one second... Back in Oblivion and Morrowind, I needed spellmaking to make a 100 points specific healing spell (I prefer to go by hundreds/tens).
Mysticism lost its usefulness when they cut'd teleportation spells (Being replaced with Fast Travel, which honestly I normally roleplay that as teleportation magic). Also, telekinesis and soul trap are in Alteration and Conjuration, which fits pretty well. Absorb stuff are in Destruction, which doesn't bother me... So we really didn't lost an entire school of magic... Just a skill.
And yes, we did lost good amount of individual spells. They were either added in as potion effects, enchantment effects, rare effects, or not added at all... Some of it makes sense to me and balances the game pretty well (Magic always been way too OP in de' past).
So magic is pretty dang alright in Skyrim. Though I don't support every change/removal... It isn't in a noway a massive disappointment to me... Just my opinions though.
That's not paralyze. Paralysis is specifically an actual effect that makes the target unable to move. What you are talking about is more of a hypnosis/mind control spell. FYI: It isn't an actual effect on the body but on the mind itself. Which also means the target shouldn't be glowing green when paralyzed and such.
I facehoof'd at this little book issue but it doesn't bother me too much and still support Paralysis being Alteration.

Useful spells?
Seriously?
90% of mage playthroughs amount to dual-cast impact firebolts, conjure dremora twins, or one of the leveled fear/frenzy/calm spells.
Magic being OP made sense, because you had to invest in it substantially, and it was all about playing creatively. Hell, complaining about magic being OP in previous games is inherently nonsensical thanks to infinite power attacks, fortify restoration loops, the sneak tree and Julianos-knows what else Skyrim offers, but you know what else the games offer?
Choice.
It's hilarious you talk about magic being OP when players love to rave about how it's their choice to be OP or weak or average.
I am not gonna go into detail of every single spell in Skyrim that I like using for specific reasons... That will take too much time... But yes, a lot of useful spells are in Skyrim. Only a few missing, like "Unlock".
Also, I did pick bad wording when saying OP. I know anything can be OP or weak in The Elder Scrolls series if one chooses so. What I was going at is Magic always had... Well... Everything. Especially back in Morrowind... There was pretty much a spell for like everything and the issue can be that, due to this, can cause almost any specific mage characters to either get boring or end up too similar.
What they did with magic was basicly spread out the effects and makes them specific to certain FORMS of magic. Potion, Spell, or Enchantment form... Rather than simply making everything available to all three forms, which causes the issues... I personally like what they did with Skyrim cause it makes not only good sense but puts more usefulness in the creative skills.
I would list everything I want, but a lot of it has already been covered by many others before me. The notion that mages should have to use potions or enchantments to have access to magical effects is insane, as is making new ways to deliver spells but not actually allowing them to scale and become more powerful while simultaneously not including more powerful versions of those delivery systems.
What miffs me about the loss of spellmaking the most is that we have very interesting new types of delivery systems that don't allow us to experiment and create neat spells. No way to make an Absorb Health Rune or a Wall of Frenzy or anything like that. Magic doesn't really feel magical to me. It feels anemic and unimaginative.
I'm the kind of person who wants at least six ways to handle something in an RPG. In general, Skyrim rarely offers three, sometimes offers two, usually offers one, and often offers none.
PS3 players can do it too. Just takes a bit more effort.
And how exactly can ps3 users get things on their save? i heard of a PC app that was similar to the ps2 of GS but not sure the legitimacy of it.
