Which is exactly what mods are for. All those niches that some people desire. And based on the Oblivion mods, this wouldn't be that difficult to accomplish. This is assuming Skyrim allows such amazing access to the CS, which I hope stays the same. (not to go too far off topic but... anyone know about that?)
Continuing offtopic - Yeah, Bethesda is creating the Creation Kit for the Creation Engine, which will fulfill the same functions as the construction set. It'll work differently considering it's a new engine, but the potential remains. If you wanna learn more, just look the Creation Kit up.
You are afraid of virtual spiders in a video game? Not to sound mean but that is kind of pathetic.
It's not the fact that it's spiders in a video game, but the thought of spiders themselves. If you have a phobia, a
true phobia and not the I'm-using-a-phobia-as-an-excuse-to-get-attention that you see proliferating the internet, it means you have an irrational fear that is debilitating your everyday life. You don't even need to see something like a spider. Someone can just say "Spider!" and they will panic. I know firsthand, as I have a friend with arachnophobia, and she probably will not play Skyrim because it has spiders in it. Won't even watch the Harry Potter movies because a few of them feature a giant CGI spider. Her phobia is not Bethesda's fault, and they shouldn't take the time out of their work schedule to shelter her from that fear. A phobia can be fixed, but it's the sufferer's own duty to do that. Considering spiders are very
real entities, they deal with them in more places than video games and it's just a fact of life for them.
As to the exposure argument I saw floating around, it can either make things better or worse. If someone is afraid of spiders, you're not gonna shove them into a room full of them - you'll just traumatize them and potentially turn a phobia into a deeper form of insanity. But a single harmless spider might not be so bad, especially when you point out how harmless it is. You can work up from there, until the person is no longer afraid, but it takes time. In Skyrim, there may very well be a room full of spiders. The thought of a spider is bad for someone with a phobia. The thought of a room full of spiders may be just as bad as overexposure. So it is pathetic in a sense, but keep in mind that these phobias aren't usually the fault of the person who has them. It could be caused by any traumatic experience in one's life, especially during early development and childhood. It's only their problem to fix, and for that I extend sympathy but not accommodation.
