No Split-Screen A Factor?

Post » Sun Oct 03, 2010 7:05 pm

The fact that there's not going to be split-screen is a slight disappointment for me, however, it won't stop me from buying this game. I, personally, would love to have split-screen, considering I have a lot of friends that don't own a 360, and therefore don't play many games other than ones that are split-screen capable. Eh, still buying the game. :celebration:

I'm planing to get it for PC, so the split-screen ability is not important for me. But I′m sure its a great fun on consoles.

Something really important if you ask me. I hang out with my friends alot and the fact that most shooters these days dont have split-screen is really is lame. Although its something I can live with we could always take turns.

How could they have an FPS game without split-screen? That's practically impossible if you think about it, so I don't know where you get your info but I think it'll have split-screen.

Trust me its not. Many FPS's don't. Everyone I know is too busy with school/jobs/etc to all come over and play.

Battlefield bad company 2
Bioshock 2
Team Fortress 2
Enemy Territories Quake Wars
To name a few without splitscreen

From now on please don't join a forum and go around like you know more than the other people here.
Unless you link an article/interview/press release stating from the devs at SD that there will be splitscreen.

It's more of a formatting headache then anything. Everyone plays online with people they meet online anyway and there's a lot of different shaped screens, resolutions, and designing the game to work and fit on all those as a single player experience is taxing enough for developers. They don't want to hear people whine that the screen is split down the middle because they have a widescreen and it's causing their periph to get cut off.

Want split screen get halo. That seems to be their specialty. Also Unreal Tournament 3. I've been playing it with a friend lately and it's a blast.

The only thing I hate is that the screens get squished instead of resized. I.e Sniper sight is really oval instead of round when zoomed in.
Otherwise it's awesome

I'm pretty upset this doesn't have split screen. Being so heavily focuses on team play I assumed it did and told my GF it did for months. I was hoping this would replace Gears of War and Wii for us gaming together. I wouldn't want to see 4 player split screen, just 2 would make me happy. Seriously the only thing that I don't like about this game.

If you both have a Console (Or if you have 2 I.e one new, one old, but the same) you could play together in the same room (But with 2 different tvs) It's a hassle but it's do-able.

But I agree with you, I really want 2p Split-screen with Brink.

wow guess you never heard of COD 2 player online splitscreen and Halo. 4-player online splitscreen and it's a 16 slot multiplayer game.

Also I would love to get a link to your phone. A phone more powerful than a PS3 or 360.

For the 360, each core (3 cores) of the Cpu has been clocked at 3.2 GHz (each)
Ram = 512mb (Not exactly high)

(Im not saying this is your phone) But an Iphone 4 may have 512 ram but only 1 ghz total cpu.

fine, slitscreen is for consoles, but most of those games are co-op not actually 16 slot multiplayer, they allow 2 - 4 people to play against AI, not 12 - 14 other people

btw, my new phone

He never said his phone was more powerful - go back and read:

He was speaking only of memory capacity - plus, I don't know if he was actually being literal.

I have yet to see a splitscreen game on anything but a console. Actually I'm wrong Serious Sam had split screen for PC but it wasn't all to great. So the main point is that only good split screens are on consoles. They want to make the game to be full screen mostly due the fact that you have to really watch your surroundings in this game and a full Screen helps with that. At least that's my best guess...

Left 4 Dead has it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlTFojAA2-k

Which is why I really don't like split-screen. If I want to play with my friends, we do co-op online, play 2 player games that share one, full screen (like Marvel Alliance) or take turns. Cutting screens in half is lame.

Halo Reach (Also halo 3)
Call of duty: Black Ops

Both have splitscreen online against other people (16 for Halo Reach, 12-14 for COD:BO)

Also Left 4 dead had 4 vs 4 versus (2p split-screen guest)
And UT3 has Online guest 2p splitscreen against real people

I personally hate Split Screen, I absolutely cannot stand it. I know why some people do like it though, and in some cases need it, but for me it's just... ugh. If I want to play with friends, I play over Live or on a System Link.
But again... I understand the need for it, and I think it should have been put into the game. Not much you can do about it though.

Well its not a problem for me. But it would have been a nice feature. I struggle to see why they wouldn't add split screen in.

SD is small company - maybe around 100 people. Between designing the game in general and working on 3 separate versions at the same time, I think split-screen was a the bottom of the "to do" list. The engine might not even support it.
