No Split-Screen A Factor?

Post » Sun Oct 03, 2010 6:21 pm

I've been searching around the internet and a lot of people aren't going to buy this game because it doesn't have split screen. For me I don't mind that much but for a game that's supposed to be co-op heavy split screen seems to be a no brainer. For houses that have multiple people it's kind of a downer. Imagine 4 person split screen with everyone picking a different class. It would make for epic lan parties.

So is no split screen a factor for people. Since this is the brink forum i doubt anyone will opt out of buying the game because of it but is it still soemthing thats disappointing.

I'll buy anyway but it is nice to have split screen as an option. Games these days don't often go 4 way split. Sometimes two but with everyone playing online it's like they don't think it matters too much.
I'm sure there's a reason to why brink doesn't have it.

Having 4 good computers is really a good thing is this case. I don't really need splitscreen because no one I knox is going to buy the game. I'm fairly sure that it's a bummer for other people and I know how fun it is to play splitscreened.

Yeah it's definitely a negative. My crib is the chill spot for me and most of my friends and it would've been a blast to play split-screen but oh well.

Eh I agree split screen is pretty important. It helps get more people to play the game because for example, you go to a friend's house and you sit there watching him play a game and get bored. OR you play the game with him and go 'Wow this game is awesome I'm going to get it'.

I wish it had split screen, but it won't stop me from buying it. There are lots w/o split screen.

Or your friend could buy a copy and support the developer!!! Anyways I'm a PC gamer and that split screen stuff gives me a headache and never has enough view available to have fun. Every time I've played it really did svck and that is on a 42' screen. I can't imagine someone trying it on something smaller either.

I never liked split screens because it takes away lots of vision. I think split screen would damage the Brink-ing experience.

I don't really think it would damage the experience. If you think about it, playing split-screen is like playing on a smaller tv. If you have a big tv then it isn't as bad. If you're playing on a small tv to begin with....ehh that's pretty bad.

I play on a PC so split screen is something of a non-issue for me. If someone isn't going to buy it because it lacks split screen I'd suggest renting it and seeing what they think of the game - sure it may not be as convenient for big groups but they still may find that they really enjoy it.

I think especially game designers for console should want to make it mandatory to program split screen into their game as people have friends over play the game with them. get them hooked, and they end up wanting to buy it themselves. It's like video game evangelism.

Yeah, it kinda works like that.

But if you want to show BRINK to someone, you just let them play it on your console solo, and sit next to them and give tips n [censored]

Ya now back in the day we all sat around our nintendo's taking turns, you should try it it's really not that bad lol I think what people need to realize is that 99% of games are garbage nowadays especially on consoles. We are also short on PC games being released despite the games being made on PC's and PC's having superior controls and graphics not to mention umpteen other reasons. Consoles are bad gaming machines but a cheaper startup cost and more expensive long term cost (Live fees, games are always $10 more). When a company like Splash Damage takes it's time to make a great game just buy it. Who cares about split screen, that's like not buying a red bike because you wanted a red and black bike but they don't paint them like that. The colour won't take away from the ride just like having no split screen won't take away from Brink's gameplay. Support the developers who take their time like Splash Damage, Blizzard and iD. They deserve your money.

Also for the second time we all know what split screen looks like and again, on my 42' screen it still svcks due to FOV loss. Even if the screen is 200 feet FOV loss would still make it svck.

Split Screen Adds to gameplay. So many games I play and put away once I'm done with it because I had finished it and got bored of.
Split-screen just adds to a games longevity and allows people that want it to be able to play with either a friend or room-mate, their and then.

And to people simply saying, oh have your friends buy the game. Well no offense but if you didn't notice not everyone has an Xbox 360 or PS3. Also having a friend over to 'take turns' is the most boring crap ever.

I agree with all of this. I don't want to take turns with my friend so he can play the game, especially with how long BRINK matches will be. I'd rather be a medic and be his pocket healer for a whole game while he picks soldier or engineer. That way he gets a dedicated healer and I get ammo or gun buffs.

Also, NOTHING beats playing in the same room and I really don't want to have 3 people bring TV's and box's over just to play in the same room.

Edit: Anyone can diss split screen but even if it's in the game you don't have to play it. To me it's a no-brainer, why not put split screen in? If people don't like it or don't want to play it then they won't. Maybe SD has a good reason, they do for everything else. I wanna see an interview asking about it.

I used to play at Halo:CE LAN parties all the time, when I was in high school. Even after Halo 2 and 3 came out, we always went back to the original game, it's the best. Shotguns no-shields CTF on battle creek (With 8 to 16 people) is still one of my most vivid memories while gaming.

I don't play split screen very often anymore, so it wouldn't affect me that much either way, but it doesn't seem like it would be hard to include, unless it just taxes the console too much to be running the game for two people at once.

Nothing will ever beat Halo:CE lan parties...NOTHING.

And the system being unable to handle split screen properly is the only reason I can think of of why SD wouldn't do split screen.

I'm going to get it for PC as many else will, so split-screen wouldn't even matter. I don't mind it though, as at least the game has online co-op which will be fine for me I suppose!

Personally if the console can't/couldn't handle split-screen with this game, then personally I would sacrifice some graphics quality to play it Split-screen.
NOT Graphics quality while solo or solo screen online, ONLY for the split-screen mode. That way the game isn't affected for anyone else not wanting to play split-screen.

they don't want differences between pc and the consoles, pc can't support 2 mice and 2 keyboards as far as i know, so=>no split-screen

Agreed. Borderlands split-screen is some of the most fun I've ever had playing video games. It would have been nice to experience that with BRINK as well. I'm still going to enjoy the game of course.....it just would have been bettter if it had split-screen.
