no splitscreen? is it worth getting anyways?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:47 am

Hello

so up till today i was very excited for brink, i love playing coop game with my brother or sister, espcially shooters like halo, and its my primarly form of gaming on the xbox. Brink was looking to be the best coop shooter ( and i guess it technically is) out there, but without splitscreen, it kinda went from WOW!!! to meh...

I dont have alot of friends that plays on the xbox ( mosly pc gamers), so will such a coop centric game be even worth buying? its still looks cool and all, but without family or friends to play with, online or splitscreen the idea of brink becomes kinda lackluster.

PS: i know i could get it for the PC, but me and most of my freinds dont meet the recommended reqs... so pc is out of the question for now.

i really dont thing no splitscreen is a good reason to not buy a good game, and even if you dont know anyone to play with online you can drop in and out of games with people you dont know

Well I would recommend renting it then, mostly cause you will be able to do the campaign an try out the missions which give lots of replayability, and you don't have to know who you're playing with to have a good time. You can still enjoy it with randoms

Anyone that doesn't want splitscreen is selfish. I love playing splitscreen (online) with my brother, and for such a team orientated game, it surprises me to see that they didn't implement it, and they haven't really given us a good reason why not ('It would have taken too much time doesn't really count'.)

I felt the exact same way when i first heard that it didn't include split-screen as i don't have xbox live and my computer can't handle it. But i'm reluctantly going to get it just because if i didn't obsessing about the game here would have been a huge waste of time (which it is anyways)

I believe Ed stern said in an interview that they weren't able to render the game twice on one screen without compromising graphics.

well i used to play ghost recon advance warfighter 2 4 player plitscreen, and they dumped down graphics quite considerbally, didnt stop me or my friends of having alot of fun,

Id take worse graphics with slitscreen over no splitscreen, anyday any time, but mayby that just me,

ill probally w8 for it to hit the bargain bin or a comp upgrade.

Sorry to hear no splitscreen is a let down, but why don't you just make some new friends that will have the game to play with

The COD graphics are [censored] when you play splitscreen - but i can handle that because i like my brother more than i like graphics.
They clearly just couldn't be bothered to put it in - it's lazy.
I'm obviously still going to play this awesome game, but it's gutting that i can't share my experience (not XP btw) with my brother.

Also might have something to do that all SD games have been PC based before this and that have had to hire lots of help for developing on the consoles.

Yeah, but it's not like they just took the whole quake team, and said make this for Xbox and PS3. NO. It's lazy, apathy, the easy option - they have their activision $_$ money goggles on.

Is that not my choice if i'm willing to make my graphics rubbish for extra enjoyment?

Hey man Im a split-screen gamer too ,there is nothing like gaming out with a pal at your side (It is a hell of alot better then talking to eachother over a head set. (Now a-day people just dont see the fun in gaming out with a friend )

Well for me and my friends we are all older and have work and school to juggle and can rarely see each other let alone do splitscreen, online helps this.

Piggybacking off what Wraith said, this forum is a good place to network for friends. That and I just tell everyone I know who has a PS to get brink and get on my friend list and the rest is gaming history. But it can be hit and miss trying to convince friends to get excited for Brink..... which brings us back to this forum. Everyone on this site is excited for Brink so I suggest you start farming for friends. Were on different systems though so. :sadvaultboy:

This sounds realistic. The recommended specs are big for id Tech 4, i5 and 1GB VRAM

While split-screen will always have awesome memories of Goldeneye for me, it's become less important for me as me and my gaming buddies are now all advlts living on our own we don't really use split-screen because we can afford our own systems. afford the online, and it is easier for us to play this way.

I always think that split-screen should be added just because it is tradition but it isn't a make or break thing for me.

This is definitely an age based thing. I don't have anybody to play split screen with anymore. My brother has a wife and two kids and rarely plays games. My girlfriend doesn't always like to play games with me. My friends live too far away. 10 years ago, I looked for split screen coop. Nowadays I like xbox live coop because its the most convenient way to play with friends and family that live halfway across the state/world.

Still, If I had to choose between having worse graphics to play with a friend it wouldn't bother me too much to have the worse graphics. With that said, it is completely up to the developers to decide because it is their game and their work. It has nothing to do with being selfish because it's their product, they're being critiqued by it.

Dude they had quite a few realistic and valid reasons for not including split screen. I like split screen too, but I got over it quickly. Like everyone else, No-split screen is not a make or break thing, and if it is, you're pathetic (sorry). I have a younger brother who plays on my xbox occasionally, and that's one reason i wanted split screen, but we don't mind not playing together.
And as for the "activision" comment. Bethesda is the big-wig behind Splash Damage. Completely different company, if your gunna rage over something, at least know what ur talking about and do some research on your own first.
