SPOILER: Difficulty Settings Discussion

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 7:25 am

One thing I'm not liking from what I read is that the Survival mode is not the same as Harcore mode.

Survival mode is the highest difficulty setting in the game and it only effect that your health doesn't regen when waiting.

You have to use stimpak,Doc,food or bed to get your health back up.

Eating and drinking is not mandatory it seems hunger and water managment like in New Vegas is not in the game for SS,the closes thing of management is gone towards settlements.

If you played Shelter that what the settlements represents, you have to have water, food, electicity to keep your town happy.

I really hope is not the case but we will have to wait and see.

About the info. I am still sceptical it comes from the guy with a defective PS4 (otherwise you can't explain his screenshots that look like PC on lowest settings) and also are in spanish and pretty bad translated.

Good. The food, water and sleep bars were pointless. It was just a random bar that bugged a lot that you had to worry about rarely. I took the hardcoe mode for the slow healing and ammo weight.

I can tell you one thing though. If what the guy says is true about the dialogue system and the karma/reputation system is true, people are going to be upset. lol

I would take everything with a grain of salt right now though, until it's officially released and the review embargo is lifted.

It won't be like NV that was clear from the beginning. He is so vague in this regards that you can't tell much about it.

Another note about Survival mode:

There be more legendary mobs thats are hard to kill but there are more chances that it will drop legendary weapons.

Please do not say where the leaked information is from, unless you don't want to stay here. I have edited and deleted some posts.

This ... really doesn't bother me. And I played on hardcoe every time in New Vegas.

The thing is, eating and drinking never felt necessary. It was just another meter to watch, like Radiation level. The penalties were never very stiff if you missed food or drink, and there were even items to automate the drinking process like the canteen. I never encountered a situation where I was like, "I've got to find food/drink now. It's desperate." Never felt really immersive.

The main thing I used hardcoe mode for - the broken limbs needing a doctor, and stimpaks not healing instantly, etc. seem to be present in Fallout 4's Survival mode. And that's enough for me. I can roleplay needing food and water and it'll be less annoying.

Wasn't actually the original source in my case, it was a thread like this discussing it and also I avoided strongly to give any details.

But ok no problems won't happen again.

True, but for me I like to see the meter for hunger and thirst cause for me it add realism and not some kinda god who don't needs food and drink.

But everyone has there own game taste,I just a toggle for it and sure NV was lenient with it cause there's people like for you who don't want to constantly bother with realism as hunger food.

Now I just wish they add time I need to go take a bath and restroom. :lmao:

All depends a lot on the actual balance of the game. But one big advantage of the existence of this mode is it gives a good and compatible point to hook in for mods for the realism fans. Also be carefull what you wish for "take a bath and restroom". You might get it.

I am a moddev and made a shower mod for FO3/NV which also is useable for NPCs (not released yet). Will take a while todo it for FO4 again but I plan to make it.

True and now that I think about it,since there's already a meter that tracks food and water for the settlements.

Maybe mods can fiddle with script or duplicate it towards SS as a band aid since the feature is there.

Pretty sure the 'health doesn't regen while waiting' thing is common to all difficulty settings.

I'm going to have to consider using a different difficulty setting from my normal now; I like the idea of increased spawn rates of difficulty enemies. I just hope that it doesn't make normal enemies take a stupid number of bullets to kill.

Hmmm. I may start on Survival mode, see what its like, and adjust down if need be to get the game on a level that keeps a challenge but doesn't make the game too easy.

When i read notes of someone whos experienced the game; he never mentioned the use of water, food, doctors bags, ect (and the slow healing - basically new vegas' hard mode)

All he mentions is increasing the difficulty just lowers player damage, increases enemys yadda yadda yadda and - increases legendary enemy spawns n XP - "legendary enemys" are apparently just beefed up versions of normal enemys that drop loot that has, say, +6% crit damage or. +12% AP regen (and more caps, valuable stuff, ect) so raising the difficulty pays off, keeping you better equiped.

That's lousy if it's accurate. Not so much about the sleeping and eating, but in able to get the survival healing you also have to get the enemies that sponge up bullets

I've seen all the screens now I believe, and have only seen one with a conversation and nothing about Karma. Was it discussed on Reddit? I missed that, then. Could you elaborate?

Even if food doesn't have a purpose I'm still going to eat it.

I'm an RPer, it's 8am, I gotta eat.

Looking forward to Survival mode, i want my 1st time playing to be a hardcoe struggle that forces me to make tough choices and be economic with my supplys and make every battle demand a strategy to survive.
