SPOILER Map Makeup

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 10:54 pm

I'm clearly not going to link to leaked content, but from what I've gleaned, I have made a 'guess' of the playable area.

This link is to a google map of Boston with a square superimposed showing the approximate play area.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/87106516/bostonguess.png

We knew Lexington was covered so Salem now appears likely.

It correlates well with past guesses, though it now appears more of a square than a horizontal rectangle as many speculated.

Perhaps Bostonians will be able to comment on interesting real world locations at the margins...

Not seeing him pass much suggests that it wasn't a true representation then. He would have had to pass through the heart of the city to get to the other parallel side if he took the longest point to point run.( NE to SW edge.) Even if he took the short distance run from NW to SE he still would have had to pass the outskirts of the city.. Plus he would have had to have swam a river at some point. 4 times the longest route.. 1 time the shortest route... Did you see if he swam a river?

I can't find a lot of videos about running through the maps of other games but there are plenty of videos a guy made of walking the maps of other games. Here's the fallout 3 one... there are a bunch of times for other games he walked near the end.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KqFv9-exh4

Definitely not, I've seen a little of swimming in action, and its exactly like Skyrim, no new features or depth to it at all. I think swimming ironically was an after thought.

What could be different about swimming?

Are you unhappy that walking works the same?

Why change what already works?

What extra feature could you do under water?

An underwater dance?

Underwater chests, sunken boats, lost vaults, and underwater combat. The Witcher 3 had good (but not great) stuff to do out on the water and under it. I really enjoyed it. Just wish there had been more to use than a crossbow for underwater. Where Fallout 4 could play to its sci-fi routes to easily make it more interesting where as the Witcher 3 has to work in the constraints of medieval + magic.

And yet it seems the Witcher 3 is more creative in that regard. I'm betting any underwater content that is there is boring (In Fallout 4).

Oh I know, how about bloody combat, that usually is a plus, I'm sure melee-focused folks are tired of staring at their enemies, along with the enemies glaring right back at them.

Oh, and less cockiness, perhaps?

Explorable caves, submarines, beasties, eldritch horrors of the deep, teenage mutant ninja sea-turtles etc. More of the same but beneath the waves.

This, kind of tired of seeing "Deathclaws" as the top of the food chain, I'm pretty sure the waters out there are far nastier than what walks on land, especially since sharks, a hardy bunch of creatures that naturally toughen through the dino age, have most certainly survived. Might as well cal them "Deathjaws" ;P

Turning my cocky setting down two points B)

I think it remains to be seen what can or can't be done underwater.

There is an appropriate perk after all.

In part I'm railing against the notion that thing have to be different.

Like locks and computer hacking, why change it if it just works?

Considering that there are perks, that allow unlimited diving and undetectable swiiming I think it is safe to assume that there will be a couple of things to do in or around the water areas.

Two words "glowing sea". But I'm not gonna jump to any conclusions until I get my hands on it.

Maybe we will see water related quest in the DLCs if not already in 4. There was a picture of a very large Chinese sub in the art footage at e3.

We know...

But still, it is possible that the part that was a "sea" is now dried land and so the glowing sea.

No leaker has revealed the glowing sea yet

Given how well they did quasi-Lovecraftian stuff in the Dunwich Building, I'd practically drop dead if they did something eldritch and terrifying down in the depths... sleeping, dead, but never dying.

According to the legend on the map, 145,800 sq feet or roughly 27 sq miles, but over one third is water.

I'm like most people here in hoping that they did include somethings in the water areas. Sea monsters, caves, etc. I'm going for the perk that lets me breath underwater. I'm going to explore those areas as much as possible.

but if they don't use this area for DLC, I can see a lot of mods released for these areas. Here's hoping someone makes an underwater city mod if there isn't one. I'd love to have my own place there.

Skyrim does not take 30 minutes to cross. 14 minutes and sprint speed may be faster and longer in fallout. [post='https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oaFf2sAS68%27%5D[/post]

Yeah, my point is the pip boy could be using prewar topography maps. So while it may no longer be a sea it could have been at one point.

I live near Boston the area of water a lot of it is the port authority cargo shipping container lanes fisheries etc. as well as the airport. don't for get the tunnels or the mass pike and expressway that travel under the city of Boston and the water ways. they could have container ships In the harbor all busted up to explore like rivet city only not docked. they could have made an atole type city in the ocean like In water world from these wrecked ships in the ocean.

It does if you don't run (but jog), and you go west<>east.

You're right about the sprint speed.

The problem with these comparisons is that we lack a consistent baseline in velocity.
