*SPOILER MAYBE*Jets In Rivet City Question

Post » Sun Jul 25, 2010 9:49 am

Why does the brotherhood of steel or Outcast in D.C make no attempt at collecting the jets in rivet city.
They always talk about how they have absolutely no counter for the Enclave verti birds. Those
fighter jets are a perfect counter. Sure they are 200 years old but if they can fix
liberty prime why can't they fix those jets. It isn't impossible because the boomers
in new Vegas could fix a gunship thats been underwater and they aren't really as
advanced as the Brotherhood.

I think it's because the the Brotherhood does not have any fuel for jets or other things.

As I understand lore, the Enclave has fuel from off shore oil rigs, but few if any other organizations have any fuel. Aside from fission batteries, which I don't think can power vehicles.

This is kind of spoiler-y I guess?

Spoiler
They didn't fix Liberty Prime, Dr. Li did.

For the most part, basic and advanced knowledge of electronics, technology, etc. has been lost over the years. The fighter jets left over on Rivet City are probably so derelict anyways, and then the question of how they could even extract them off the boat?

The way I see it, the BoS don't have the priority of fighting off the Enclave. They had their own directives and because the Enclave came up as a threat, they engaged them.

...but I literally only got GOTY edition a couple days ago and started Point Lookout first so my opinion might change after I play Broken Steel? Maybe?

No, you have it right. The BoS didn't take the Enclave seriously until they took over the Jefferson Memorial. That was the only thing that drove them to take direct action against them, so they didn't need to worry about air power up until that point.

I may be mistaken, but my impression is that (pre-war), energy was not really a major issue (as it is in our real world). There are thousands of cars, trucks, and other ground vehicles ltering the landscape in the Wastelands. All of them were nuclear-powered. I suspect that aircraft would have operated in the same way.

It's simple. The fuel would probably be the easiest problem to solve. All the electronics, rubber, wiring, and exterior surfaces would be no good. Don't forget they are sitting in a salt water environment and frankly it would be easier to build a new plane based on the design than to repair a two hundred year old plane after being exposed to the elements in a highly corrosive environment.

It takes years and a lot of fabrication just to restore a plane from WWII now. Try to imagine restoring one after two hundred years where no parts are available and everything from flight instruments to seats would have to be made from scratch. One last thought- would you want to pilot a complicated plane with out any training or knowledge of how to fly and most importantly land it?

Just not a workable solution on several levels.

Someone could start the "Lone Wanderer Flight School". Disclaimer: No good landings guaranteed.

The problem with this, fuel aside, is where are they going to take them? Adams Airforce Base is kind of far to drag a plane, and I'd not trust trying to run a heavy plane on a 200 year old rust bucket

Here as wiki page that talks about the enclave and fuel:

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Enclave

The Enclave also has access to one of the last supplies of fossil fuel in the world and the advanced Vertibird helicopters

Good point, and I might be going a little off-subject, but in my opinion, Operation Anchorage is the best DLC to start with because it's relatively easy, nets you a fair amount of experience, gives you Power Armor Training, and at the very end *spoiler* you get into the weapons room and it has a lot if great stuff. Also, I'd like to add that Liberty Prime was actually in very good condition when the Bos found him, so there wasn't much fixing to be done, the only problem was power management which Dr. Li did solve.

That was in 2242, Oil Rig is long gone by Fallout 3, personally, as someone has to justify if Beth won't, I'm also of the opinion some sort of rechargable fusion battery.

I wish I had known that, now I'm knee deep and let me tell you had quite the OMGWTF moment when I encountered the Feral Goul Reaver that WOULDN'T DIE. It was very sad. I go from blowing the heads off Talon Company Mercs like they're made of gingerbread to having to run backwards while shooting and inhale like ten Stimpaks to survive.

Anyways.

The way I understood it was that LP had never been used, because it hadn't been completed, or rather, the same power issues were present in 207x as they were in 2277.
