*SPOILER* The Brotherhood of Steel #2

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 3:21 pm

Indeed, how can a proper base be established without "fear" of ruining some head canon from ages ago. However it's just the route I can imagine Bethesda taking. I hope that I am wrong. I'm sure we all think it obvious that Brotherhood complicity in both the MQ of F3 and Broken Steel will be canon but I can imagine them just refering to the LW in neutral pronouns and not much else.

We did in Fallout 2 in the form of the VD's memoirs, and from the load screens in Fallout 2 it would suggest that the protagonist of that game was also male.

Its generally assumed that the "canon" protag is always male default 1, aka the guy they use in all the promo stuff.

When was he ever promoted to Paladin? I only remember him being referred to as a Knight in Broken Steel.

The Vault Dweller's gender was determined by a statue dedicated to him outside of the NCR Council Hall in Fallout 2.

Perhaps we learned the Chosen One's gender, then? Could have sworn we learned both. Might just be making that up.

Marcus refers to the Chose One as HE andhttp://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Bruce_Isaac references http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Mr._Bishop with the description, "He knows the Wasteland like the back of his hand, and he likes to wander it." referring to the Bishops child ending slide in Fallout 2.

Haven't played Fallout 2 yet, I was about to defeat the master and my PC broke. I only remember the Storyteller lore series talking about two chones ones, for each gender, who did different things. Perhaps we don't know.

That's debatable. Some people think that the nod to the Bishop Child ending is a clear canonization of The Chosen One's gender, I don't think it's that simple. Marcus, who actually knew the Chosen One, refers to them in gender neutral terms (tribal, friend), and the only hint of their gender was from the aforementioned Biship Child reference. The thing is, the Bishop women who can have that child were notorious for sleeping around with visitors to New Reno, so while that reference is an obvious nod to a Fallout 2 ending it's not an indisputable confirmation that the Chosen One was male.

My initial thought was to join them based on the military background of the male protagonist, and the Brotherhood's history as a military organization, but after watching the trailer I am curious to see if the Brotherhood just seeks to stamp out the Institute as a potential technologically advanced competitor, or if they also view androids in the same light as ghouls and super mutants (subhuman beings that will get shot on sight).

Good to know.

They don't shoot Fawkes or Charon... and the gate is guarded by Paladin Bael, who isn't exactly kind.

-

Back on topic: so, if an entire expedition disappeared without a trace (we'll assume a rather well armed and well trained force!), I better hear of something drawing the LW away or give us a quick "into the sunset" line. If not, I'm calling bull; this is the exact situation the/our/my/their LW would get into.

Fawkes comments that the only reason people don't shoot at him while he is with you is because they trust you, a lot.

Charon is likely the same situation.

While a character in Underworld did comment that the Brotherhood frequently shot at ghouls, he also mentioned that they had the decency to miss most of the time. The impression I got was that the Brotherhood was chasing the ghouls off, not that they were 'shooting them on sight'.

True, we only really see Ghoul bodies out in the Wasteland proper, not among/near Mutant or BoS forces in the Capitol.

Edit: at least, to my obviously suspect memory.

That's a good point! I guess my first character will support a Brotherhood which doesn't just destroy all the androids, but rather preserves the technology

And the OB character who got turned into Sheogorath XP (and maybe Battlespire character whose artifacts you can find in Tel Fyr, possibly suggesting that they somehow passed away from Corpus Disease).

Anyway, if it is canon the FO3 Collector's Edition Game Guide reveals that this is exactly what happened (though Beth would have wanted him dead in Purifier no doubt).

Unless the Lone Wanderer has to play a role, there is no real reason to canonize them. And since Beth originally planned them to die (and only changed it due to aggressive demand), I doubt they will make them important enough in FO4 to do the canonizing.

Well, we know the CWBoS still have the Citadel. They had no fallback position (with the exception of maybe The Pitt if Ashur finished his cure and sent word?) and couldn't survive without it, sooooo... "better" ending confirmed. ^_^ I feel like the LW should be a female. No idea why.

Akul - that's true, but I'd also like to say that it's probably likely that, given the Lone Wanderer was supposed to die, and given his overdose of radiation regardless, he probably dies rather quickly after Broken Steel, succumbing to some sort of radiation-induced complication. Neat way to sort of tie it all up.

What if you have the radiation absorption perk? :sadvaultboy: This is starting to feel like anime and power levels.

What is the LW capable of?

I wouldn't mind if that was the case, nice input dude. But I'd prefer it if he was around in F4 (gonna have to get used to typing that) so I could kill him myself.

Not necessarily.

Isn't Sheogorath in Skyrim heavily implied to be the Champion of Cyrodiil?
