Spoken Names Will NOT Be Revealed

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 1:08 am

Looks like Bethesda has no plans to release the list of voiced names, period.

I'm sure that at least a partial list will be up within a few hours of release, and a full list within probably a few days. But I'm disappointed that the full list won't be released. I wonder if they will be in the Prima Guides? That would be a nice benefit of getting one. - at least until someone uploads the information onto the Wiki.

Wow, so I will probably have to spend the first couple hours creating several test characters until I get an acceptable name that's included. It's either that or wait until somebody posts the list on a fan site.

I don't think the spoken names thing was ever supposed to be that big a deal. It's just Codsworth that does it, and unless you take him as a companion you'll almost never hear the name past the opening sequence anyway.

i honestly don't see why they won't release the list of names.... why would they even make this a feature and then not tell us which names can be said in-game?

They better have my name, after all it is quite common, it's:

Ramses Niblick the Third Kerplunk Kerplunk, Oops Where's My Thribble.

Totally common.

Is it? I suspect that all your companions will address you by name, rather than calling you "Lone Wanderer" or something. In addition, I suspect that other NPCs will address you by name as they find out your name - at least, important NPCs, like the faction leaders, town mayors, town sheriffs, heck, we may be surprised and even the prosttutes could call us by name when our reputation gets high/low enough. At least, that's what I'm hoping. Maybe it's just Codsworth. But, if that's it...it seems like such a waste of time for a fully voiced game. What will everyone else call you? "Cryo-boy"? "Time-sicle"? "Wanderer"? Meh. Why not just call you by name, if it is reasonable that they might have discovered your name? The game would certainly seem more "real".

Don't see it as that big of a loss. In the long run, I bet only a handful of generic or silly names will be included and it will rarely be acknowledged anyway. Just another gimmick the way I see it.

Because you'd have to multiply each voice acted line that references our name by about a thousand for every name they accounted for. I'm pretty sure it was confirmed somewhere that Codsworth was the only one who could use our name.

And they'd talk around our name, just like they did in Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Skyrim. Why should this game be any different?

Seems like a real waste of time and resources recording 1000 names just so you can snicker hearing Codsworth call you Mr.Boobies once in the beginning.

In looking into it, while it is confirmed that Codsworth will say your name, nowhere is it confirmed that ONLY Codsworth will say your name. At least, as far as I have found so far. If you have a confirmation, please provide the source. I suspect that at least your companions will address you by name - and likely the Main Quest Villain. I could easily be wrong. I hope that at least the companions all call you by name. They're your companions, after all!

That's a shame. I mean, I know that my character names will probably not be spoken, but it'd still be nice to know which names are.

I am searching for the source to verify, but these names are also supposed to be in the game:

Albert

Vic

Zachariah

I cannot confirm them, as I do not know what source they came from, but that's still a very low number of names, even if those are also on the list.

Is It sad my first thought was Good.

That way if the names do not have any even spit of ethnically diverse names than no one is the wiser, and wont have any of this type of ammo to throw hate at the game.

Isnt it only codsworth that says your name? It's just a small detail that I wouldn't be too upset if my characters name isnt on there.

Why does anyone give a crap about a robot saying thier characters name once...? If if was a game long thing where all nps knew your name sure! But just in one sequence seems silly :)

Isn't Computer Generated Voices supposed to be just a few years away? Just have someone donate their voice patterns to a video game company and all the dialog for the game can be created without having the voice actor spend 2 years of their lives. Or create artificial voice patterns so there is no worry about the voice actor suing the company for something their voice pattern said. Therefore, it should be possible for each npc to say your character's name as long as it is within reason. Dave the Destroyer should be possible, but Mxyzptlk wouldn't be possible unless the programmers put it in. Of course, this technology would remove the need for all actors, voice actors, and musicians from any movie, TV show, video game, or song. So Fallout 5 or 6 might have every npc in the game call you by your name instead of just once character.

I think people are over-estimating the power of voice generation tech... and I think society in general would be reticent to completely destroy the voice acting industry. MIDI's gotten pretty powerful, but people still prefer live musicians.
